Just ordered (I'm sure there's a separate thread for this, but anyway...)

Finally ordered...

280 4x4 SE-L Executive Estate

  • Petrol Blue
  • DCC
  • Paddle shifters
  • Electric front passenger seat
  • Ventilated seats
  • Heated windscreen
  • Heated washer nozzles
  • Retractable parcel shelf
  • Variable boot floor
  • Space saver spare wheel
  • Colour maxidot
  • Traffic sign recognition

I had wanted the LED interior light package, but Skoda rather stupidly (or greedily?) insist you order KESSY if you want the LEDs.   So I stuck two fingers up to that one.

I also thought about the Sirius 19" alloys, but, as good as they look, I couldn't justify the extra cash.   Also, having been lucky to have had a 5 day test drive of four Superb estates (3 x  280s and 1 x 190TDi 4x4) of differing specifications, I found a noticeable increase in road noise with the 280 that was riding on 19" wheels.  I thought the ride on 19s was a tad more fidgety in Normal DCC mode too.

Over my extended test drives, I was really impressed with the fuel economy that could be achieved (at least according to the trip computer...not sure how accurate they are).  In Eco mode on good A roads and dual carriageway and making full use of Coast function, I routinely saw high 30s - low 40s.   Note:  this was driving sensibly, not slowly...the two are different;)

On one trip from Leicester to Stamford on the A47 in Eco mode, I saw 46mpg average at journey's end.  On the other hand, when I indulged in some press-on driving, I was seeing 25-28mpg (but that's no worse than my Focus ST).    What impresses me is that if you choose to drive economically, the 280 can deliver.  Compare that to a 190 TDi 4x4, which averaged 49mpg in Eco mode on a long trip.

I'm going to really miss my Focus ST, but the Superb won't disappoint on straighline performance (the ST will leave it for dead on a twisty B road, mind) and long distance comfort.

Finally, I've experienced a lot of confusion from Skoda (which has been amplified by my poor old lease company) regarding various Superb options, e.g. LED package / KESSY; ventilated seats / leather seats / alcantara seats; variable boot floor-v-space saver wheel)...message me if you need any advice, as trying to sort these various options nearly drove me mad;)

My experienced-based conclusion is that the Superb is a first-rate car let down by a third-rate configurator & iffy head office knowledge.

(Have posted a variation of this in the 280 thread for maximum exposure)

What really slowed me down ordering my Superb was choosing a colour.  I liked the idea of Petrol Blue.

Three dealers I visited told me it looked fantastic on the Superb, but they didn't have an example to show me.  All three dealers said a variation of "make sure you see a Superb in Petrol Blue before you order...it suits the car, but don't trust the colour on the configurator."

They were right.

Why is the Skoda (part of VAG) configurator so crap compared to Audi (part of VAG)?

A very similar thing happened to me. I wanted the blue but after seeing it on the configurator I changed my mind and ordered meteor grey or somesuch. By chance I managed to see a petrol blue one and realised it was a completely different colour, and much closer to what I'd envisaged, so I switched my order over and that's what I ended up with. OP, you'll love the car and the TSI engines really are very nice indeed.

Thanks Rainmaker.

I also liked one of the greys.  Then I found out it was called Business Grey.   Nice colour, terrible name.   That ended it ;)

Dealer advised last week car was at UK docks. They've been, errr..superb, and are delivering the car on Tuesday. Pretty impressed with that!

Did you order petrol blue or petrol blue metallic (I've known several people to leave out the metallic bit when they say the colour). I can't vouch for the petrol blue but the metallic is a subtle mettalic that really pops in the sun.

"Petrol Blue" is only available as metallic, the non-metallic blue is "Pacific Blue".
