2 month wait for parts

Featured Replies

I was hit from behind on July 2nd by another driver causing a considerable amount of damage to the rear bumper, tailgate and drivers side rear wing of my L & K..

Cut a long story short I am STILL waiting for the tailgate to come to the UK.

I have emailed the CEO (about 3 weeks ago) of Skoda UK and have had their customer service team on the case since and still no joy.

I am currently driving round in a very basic VW passat which is not what my company is paying our leasing company for and on my part the associated car tax.

Anyone any ideas as how I escalate this as I feel that i am hitting my head against a brick wall.

I certainly will not be recommending any one else in the company to have a Skoda and will not have another one when mine is up for renewal which is a shame as I really like the car.

So either Skoda is not diverting enough spare body parts to support the cars on the road, or Skoda makes no attempt to stock "for workshop use" - a cheap nasty way of doing things.

There should be a warehouse of spare stock which is shipped from Europe rather than it been in the UK stock.

Times like this for such new cars, why can't skoda have donor cars in the UK which can be used for parts!

If Skoda cannot get new cars to customers for three months it does make you wonder about parts supply.........

It took me six weeks to get a new windscreen which had to come from Skoda. Gutted as the car was only two weeks old when it got hit with a stone.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were similar delays with other manufacturers.

Who is providing the Passat? Have you asked for an upgrade? What specifically is the Passat missing that the Skoda has?

Parts supply on current model cars, especially newly introduced ones, can be sketchy sometimes, this is usually due to the way in which the supply chain works. When a new model comes online for sale, the parts are prioritised for the factory building them, rather than the aftermarket/dealer supply - obviously they don't take into account accident damaged vehicles for body assemblies, rather the run of the mill fast moving parts like service items. Whilst this can cause issues once the car has been sold, it keeps production levels up in the factory, as the new build cars are priority - lose supply to the factory, you lose more money than making a bodyshop wait for a part to arrive.

I have seen this first hand when I worked at a Ford dealer - 2 weeks after the mk2 Mondeo was introduced, 3 drivers were transferring stock vehicles between branches, and had a shunt, this resulted in extensive repairs to the Mondeo involved - it took 2 months for a new back box to arrive, as the factory was on max output - and even then, they had to pull one from the factory floor to sort the problem out (after the GM got involved and contacted Ford directly. Similar problem with a mk2 Mondeo (the local plod had one as an unmarked car) when one of the plug leads failed - it was off the road 2 weeks while we waited for a replacement.

This sounds like one of those situations, factory priority over dealer network I am afraid, all you can do is keep on at them, but you may end up having to wait a while longer yet. The dealer may be able to put out a parts request across the dealer network for stock, just in case someone has one from a cancelled order, although if it was me in the parts department, that would have been done already.

I damaged the tailgate in my car a few weeks back & it needed replacing along with the tail lights, parts were ordered on the Wednesday & arrived early the next week (Monday evening/Tuesday morning) Car was repaired & handed back to me on the Friday evening good as new so that's a strange one...

These cars have been available for 12 months. There really is no reason for the parts problems other than poor planning and logistical support by Škoda UK.

BMW hold the majority of the parts in Munich, but retain key components in the UK at 48 hour delivery with delivery from Germany taking around 7-days.

It should not take 2 months for supply from the factory - thousands of these parts must be going through every week. Perhaps contact with someone like Auto Express etc might 'raise awkward questions'?

The same happened to me when someone hit our parked S3 the month we took delivery. It was in the body shop about a month (longer than I'd even had it!) just because there were no parts available. We only needed one part, too (offside rear shock absorber). Our main dealer had already refused to take the work, because they had no parts and said they'd not be willing to hold the car for the - very - long time it takes to source them. I got ours back, eventually, the month after. Make of that what you will!

That's not after-sales service. Name and shame the dealer Rainmaker

While I do agree with you, there's not much point naming/shaming. I'm not even sure that's allowed on here, but if they just can't get the parts from SUK/Skoda/VAG then I can't really blame them. :(

Well ok but dealers are very happy to be named when it works in their favour.

Direct Line via Enterprise rental are providing the Passat - I bet they are not pleased with Skoda UK either as they have had to pay for the replacement for all this time.

Its a base model compared with my L&K spec, so no Sat Nav (which I use a lot in my job) etc, etc. The principle is that we are paying for a higher spec car that i'm not able to drive.

Skoda UK although very apologetic do not seem that bothered about this.

Apparently their are 5 on order in the UK and I am second on the list, but they cannot give a date when they will be delivered from the factory - this is how it has been for about 3 weeks now.
