Columbus VS Admunsen?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I currently have a Elegance Superb that has a Columbus Sat nav system, I know it gets some knocks on here but I really like it, I find the Sat Nav easy to use and the hard drive storage for the music is great! My only criticism is updating of the maps and software!

I currently am looking for a FL Superb and have noticed that again the Columbus is only available in the Elegance but the models like the Outdoor Plus come with the Admunsen system, I reluctantly might have to compromise on this so was wondering what peoples opinions of the two systems are? On the Admunsen I can see the screen is smaller and I believe the music is stored on a memory card or MP3 player, what other things are different between the two and is the Admunsen worth the compromise? Cheers!

all i can say s the MP3 storage on SD card is brill on the Amundsen, im not sure how you get files onto a HDD Colombus but i only use a card reader for the SD card

What do you find the Sat Nav like?

Hi Yesman,

I have the admunsen+ in my Superb. I quite like the nav, it is not google maps by any stretch - but it gets me places and it looks okay! It does what it needs to IMO...

I haven't used the columbus though... what I really want is android auto... but hey...

What do you find the Sat Nav like?

we put in some local hard to find streets and it did it no worries but not really tried in TBH, im assuming as a 2013 car it will soon need a map update

If you're used to the Columbus system you'll find the Amundsen a serious step down in my view.

To be Honest thats my worry, was thinking if it would be possible to ask the dealer to swap the units? Would this be firstly a possible request and also reasonable?

You can always ask, but the answer will probably be either "No!" or "Yes, it'll cost £2000 please."

You can always retrofit one afterwards for a lot less than the dealers will want though.

Rustynuts can supply you a unit for a great price. He is also a gent and really helpful. You could recup some cost by selling the Amunsden

id buy it.....lol

No doubt the Admunsen would get you where you want to go, but I think as you currently have the Columbus you would miss anything less. I had the RNS510 (in VW talk) in my last car and it's one of the reasons I got My Superb Elegance. I also find it a great system - I don't know why so many people seem to knock it. I guess you'd get used to it but you would always really want the Columbus.

Apologies to hijack. I'm new to the forums and have just purchased a Skoda Superb estate with a Bolero media unit.

Has anyone tried alternatives, such as the Joying 7" double din android based unit?

I'd like to get something that has Google Maps and can tether to my phone if possible. I think I read on here someone tried something similar but couldn't get audio to work, as it wasn't matched to his amp (or something like that). Also, would I need to add a GPS attena?

Cheers!

I hate it when people start a reply "aplogies to hijack" If you know your question isn't on topic why not start your own bloody thread! It is quite simple!

It was just to avoid starting a thread as there's quite a few on the same subject, thought it might just be seen by the same people.

The topic here is specifically Columbus Vs Amundsen. You're asking about something completely unrelated to those two units, in fact not even related to OEM Skoda units really, as you want advice on an aftermarket unit. If you start your own thread then at least you'll have answers specific to your own question, that's all.

Fair enough, makes sense, I'll start a new thread.
