Worst mpg...

I'm still happy to try when I get a chance, but it's not straightforward unfortunately. I struggle to keep it anywhere but the mid 30s when 'pressing on'. Over 20 miles makes it even more difficult, as short of resetting the trip computer on arrival in the moors and then ragging it in low gear for 20 miles there's not much else I can do. Any A road or motorway in the 20 miles just piles the average MPG back up again... A strange complaint but definitely testament to the efficiency of the block! My last run out the previous weekend lasted 60 miles of hard driving to the limits of the roads, but I still finished up at 37mpg! :D

My worst/Best was 36.4mpg from my 190 over a distance of over 200 miles all A class roads, little dual track apart from 15 miles, average speed 49mph and fully loaded with roofbox. Made the ferry with 10 mins to spare GPS said I would be 10 mins late, when i set off. Also got stuck for 5 mins in a traffic jam. wont be repeating that trip at that speed again.

I managed to sneak out for a couple of hours tonight after our two grumpy and sick babies finally fell asleep. A good mix of roads, with sport mode on for most of the (challenging )B road sections. With this thread in mind I made full use of the acceleration even on the shortest straights between bends, but I still only got it down to 38mpg with a third of a tank of fuel left. :/

I'm never going to be able to win this game without 'cheating' and resetting the Columbus before I start the fun roads, because we live in the city. It's 10 miles out on the A roads to the motorway and then another few miles before we hit a turn off offering any good twisty bits out in the country. That's a forced 20 to 30 miles of relatively relaxed 70mph cruising per journey before I've even got my foot down! I had 41mpg before I left the motorway, and only then because I accelerated quite hard from every red light on the A roads until I hit the M6. I then managed to get the average down to a low of 37mpg ragging round the back lanes at full pelt for an hour, before it went back to up 38 overall on the way home (even taking the back way). Doh. :(

I don't think it would be cheating to reset the Columbus.

You choose which 20 miles you want to run, I don't think it  matters if it is part of a longer journey.

Only thing is you would not get the benefit of the car running from cold.

I got 16.9l/100km  which is about 13.9mpg

Addition,  280  TSI  4x4  driven in city and mountain road.

Think I may give this a go !!

I think we may need photographic evidence by way of a screen shot.

Agreed lol ! Not valid unless screen shot supplied.... I have spoken ... ;-)

Also I may get to have a go myself this weekend !!

how to attach pictures?  its asking me for URL

should i upload to "My Media" and select from there?

Ok here is my picture, i hope it shows up, which is currently what i have.

My long trip count reset when i was doing some VCDS changes.

15.7L/100km  or 14.98mpg

my worst is 16.9L/100km  or 13.9mpg which was the last full tank result. As it reset with filling up i didnt have picture of it.

it was due to driving in really bad traffic, stuck at same red light for 2 to 3 turns.

also being hot weather, A/C  was working hard and preventing auto start/stop engage so you sit in red light and idle idle idle.....

That's really good ( bad ) but I can't help but think it's not really in the spirit of the thread..... I had more in mind poor consumption because the fuel waster was blasting up alpine passes.... Not stuck in traffic lol !

So sorry that doesn't count .... :-D

Don't know how we can prove this though ?

Picture of Columbus, Dashcam footage including that day's newspaper and scientifically certified fauna collected from that particular region carbon dated to day of good ( poor ) consumption ?

But 16.9 is the stuck in real bad traffic.  15.7  is normal driving. i need to climb mountain every day twice as my home and work separate by a mountain. Thats another reason i choose 280PS with 4x4  so i can blast up the steep hill with 120~130km/hr

Need dash cam video, i can also provide, no problem.

;-) ok guys does Nazimi's count ?

Well I suppose so, but there are no mountains in Kent to beat him!

I did get 16mpg before I turned on to the M25 on my run so not far behind.

Next time I'll join the motorway at the next junction!

Mountain helps a lot to get bad consumption  :notme:

i also climb the same mountain by bicycle, its killing me so i know why the engine is hungry.

OK Ive just had a go..... Pretty disappointing really.... Put it down to very busy roads making uneconomic progress very difficult ...

I did take a picture but it has my ugly mug on it so i'll just put  the info .... :

Distance : 25 miles

Speed : 26

Time : 0:58

Fuel : 23mpg

Around Derbyshire.... Saw a couple of other Mk3's who ignored my wave and a Mk2 who had the misfortune of been next to me and going straight on at an island :-D

i am trying to drive calm and dont push too much but the mountain road i take is too steep i think, i see instant consumption is between 25L/100km to 40.9L/100km

start climbing with 12L/100km average and when the climb is finished before down hill start its already 17.2L/100km, rest is flat road until office and when i park its 14.5L/100km

on highway its about 6 to 7L/100km fixed speed about 100 to 110km/hr  so i think the car have no problem.
