Fadeing colours.......

Featured Replies

Well, after much deliberation and thought, I've decided to turn down the volume on my participation on/in Briskoda.

Personally I no longer own a Skoda, although 3 other members of the family do (dad's got my old MKII Scout, my brother has an Octavia 3 estate and my sister-in-law has a Citigo). I sold my Octavia 2 hatchback to a friend last month. I now own a Nissan 100NX and a 1997 BMW E36 323i convertible.

When I joined, I had a Felicia Fun pickup truck, a cracking little toy (for it's like nothing else), so I spent a lot of time in the "oldies" section, which had (note the past-rense) a wonderful community behind it. Sadly over the last three/four years the community spirit that was once so rife has been beaten out of that section by those who believe it should be "technical information only" with none of the joy and frivolity that it previously had. The idea that an internet forum should become this cold, after such a long an warm life, is dis-heartening, to me at least, and this has somewhat tainted my feelings about what goes on here.

"The powers that be" are aware of what's happened and chose to resist keeping the fire alive, and in with a certain amount of inaction, have chosen to condone the actions of the current individual that wishes to treat Briskoda as a personal playground, choosing to berate any member that he sees fit. (It's happened at least twice more in the last few days.)

The final straw came when there was an accusation of racism, which is unsubstantiated (as well as wholly untrue), but has been allowed to stand by the administration team, which, to me, condones the actions of the person who made the allegations and has elevated them to a "protected" status on the forum.

As I said, this has tainted, for me, the community sense and feeling that Briskoda should be, and was, about. The word community even appears in the strap-line at the top of each and ever page. It seems sad that it has been allowed to die in one corner. So, with this in mind, my heart is no longer in it to have an active participation in Briskoda as a whole on a regular basis, and so I wander into the shadows and over to the "Dark Side" (German-made, rear-wheel drive, 170bhp off the shelf goodness).

It was good knowing most of you, and I have a lot of respect for several individuals on here, whom I have had the pleasure of meeting (Gizmo68, Mike "Skoda Yoda" Holroyd, etc) and many whom I haven't (Rustynuts, Brimma {just for the JPS}, etc)

Maybe I'll see some more of you "out there".........

Sorry state of affairs that you've been brought to a position of feeling that way

All the best for your foray to BMWunderland and 100NXville (always liked them).

Thank you. The NX is in for MOT on Tuesday, at just over 95k, on an M plate. Sadly, like by Brisky membership, she has to go, and I'll just be banging around in the E36 ;) ;)

One thing I'll say about Briskoda is it evolves. Having been a member on here since 2003 I've seen the mood change so many times and it usually comes back around eventually. We have lost a lot of our original members as the demographic changed especially when the Fabia vRS was launched. Thank fully the FB group seems to attract most of the undesirables leaving the site as a good technical reference. There are some very knowledgeable people on here but then I guess if you no longer own a Skoda that's not so important.

Sorry to hear this mate. As Mike says, keep in touch. Or just do what I do and stick the feckin idiots on the ignore list. It gets longer by the week unfortunately. :D

Nope, you're still on the loose.

I remember a post on another forum which was started with the title "Who's on your "Ignore" list?" It didn't end well. :D

Why do i feel like i miss an awful lot of arguments around here.. in some section i dont go very often?
