Flat Tyre

Featured Replies

a couple of days ago i got a flat and pumped it up again now the tyre is maintaining the recommended pressure any ideas why this happened??

;) Perhaps some prankster was to blame?

Check your tyre for nails/sharp objects. It might be that you have one in it and at that time parked in such a way that the nail/sharp object opened up enough space to deflate the tyre.

Slow puncture. It'll go down again in a few weeks.

Dodgy valve??

there doesnt appear to be any object in the tyre valve was my first thought ?

Take the tyre off and inspect it well, mine was punctured on an "inner" edge...

Dodgy seal somewhere around the edge of the wheel / tyre ;)

Taking the wheel off may be a slightly easier task for the average DIYer ;) ;)

Is it only flat at the bottom ?

If so, turn it around so the flat part is at the top, this will make it easier to inflate......

Sounds like a Viz "Top Tip" :D

and make sure you replace the stale air every 6 months

Yeah, I didn't think of that... :p

Mine took about 4 weeks to deflate noticeably, so I wouldn't get any hopes up after 4 days... :)

update; 5 days so far and still at correct pressure

Strangely, my rear nearside is doing the same thing. Maybe it's some sort of VW led conspiracy?

I've just had a tyre repaired after discovering (well, no, K discovered it) a screw in my nearside rear tyre. It had been deflating for a couple of weeks, but not quickly enough to raise any mental alarms during my weekly tyre checks (oh, that one's a bit low, I'll squirt some more air in....).

Back on topic...

Fabia,

Could your problem be due to a combination of dodgy valve and valve cap not being screwed on properly? It would explain why you've only noticed the tyre deflating once.

Tyre manufacturers claim that the valve cap is the primary seal for maintaining tyre pressure, and the valve itself is just a secondary one.

my valve caps are all fixed on with gaffa tape to stop em being nicked i took the wheel off the other day and put it in the pond didnt seem to be any air leaks
