octy max power, what is it ?

Featured Replies

i don't under stnad how or why a 4x4 conversion of the vRS would work or worthwhile.

there's no room for a rear diff and no transmission tunnel on a normal octavia, the floorpan on the 4x4 is very different.

and why pay what would work out to be thouands to convert a FWD car to 4WD when there is a 4WD version readil available anyway.

madness.

  • 4x4 equates to 21.8 mph/1000 rpm so with the limiter at 7400 Im maxing out at 161 mph. The RS has higher ratios & Im actually using RS internals as part of the rebuild to get a higher top end as

I can appreciate what you're saying. I've thought about swapping to a 4x4 myself and changing the engine etc over from my vrs. But when you sit down and think that to take the power of a big turbo, you have to start changing the box to a 6 speed, then a diff, then the clutch and so on, it puts me off a bit. Its just another option I suppose, to convert the vrs to 4 wheel drive. I'll just wait and see what they come up with and the price. Like you say it won't be cheap, but neither would buying a second car, starting again and losing money on the unusable bits from the vrs. Its a case of six and two three's.

not really, the 4x4 has better rear suspension, different fuel tanks and as already said quite a different floor plan.

also not much in the way of unusable bits from the vRS either.

Lee, is it a TSR conversion you're having? Spoke to the company when I was considering what was available. They put all the right bits inside, rods, pistons etc. I'd ask if the compression is lowered on your big bore. You can drive a monster turbo with very little lag. something like a GT3071wg would be good for an easy 500 bhp, with rapid spool.:thumbup:

Yes, it is a TSR job, with as you point out, all the right bits are going inside. I think 500bhp might be a little over the top though, yes/no?:rofl:

Hi Stuart and others,i've been running a ihi since june and can recommend Jabbasport and there turbo kit.I understand the problems you have had stuart as the intercooler i had on my s3(aftermarket) was also found to be restrictive and i had to have custom one made up.I had similar results to you stuart ,high torque and low power.It was quite a handful aswell!I find the power comes in nice and progressively and has a real rip at the top end.

Mines currently at Jabba having the cooler sorted, the garbox ratios changed & the webbing taken out of the inlet manifold + Michael has a few ideas to "tweak the map" hopefully all will then be sorted.

Out of interest what tyres are you running, Im currently on Toyos but I think ive found there limit with the extra power. Ive got a track day on the 24th feb so I need to decide on replacements once Ive killed the Toyos, Goodyer Eagle F1's seem worth a try

Eagle f1's are apparently excellent and will be definetly be the next choice.Currently running some cheapos that came with my new bbs alloys,there not too bad aswell, but i do run 225/40/18.

Let me know how you get on with the remap stuart,you may see mine in there in the next few months for a little bit more work,you always want more!!;)

Had a call from Jabba, Intercooler fitted & webbing out of the Inlet manifold, gave 356 bhp (337 before) with a much better graph so looking forward to Thursday when I collect it, also will have the RS ratios so no chance of hitting the limiter in top now. Will have to find that private road to test it

I know of a private road - I'll tell you the magic password for entry if you like - Or Bengie can meet you there and lead the way ;)

Got a track day on 24th but a nice long straight to play on might be nice in March, Bengie wanted a go in the 4x4 as well

I always wondered why mine gave 335bhp with my requirements in mind and your, virtually the same with the internals sorted.

I'm runing F1 GSD3s and find them very good, although I do need a new front pair..probably why the ASR lights always flashing. ;)

Was thinking of trying some Proxes TS-1(??) or some Bridgestone PP S03. Tried Rossos and they were on par with the F1s..perhaps a little quieter but needed "curing" before you got the best of them.

I assume taking the webbing out aids heat dissappation?

It aids the air flow, the webbing is designed to mix the fuel/air as it enters the engine when you have economy in mind but it gets in the way when the big turbos pushing hard

Oh....so the webbing in actually on the inside of the manifold.....I thought you were talking about the webbing between the pipes, which is structural I guess.:o

You'll be pleased with that then?

could i pick your brains guys,

ive been reading your comments on troubles with your fmic im soon to be getting a fmic and was going to opt for the forge over the jabba fmic at the momment only pushing 235 bhp but when money allows am looking to go the way of turbo upgrade same as some of you lucky devils any thoughts on the forge fmic:confused:

You'll still easily hit the limiter with the RS ratios Stuart (apparently) :D

You'll still easily hit the limiter with the RS ratios Stuart (apparently) :D

Limiters set at 7800, Im going to enjoy trying :thumbup: :thumbup:

Based on the figures below 7800 rpm in top equates to 189.54 mph, I dont think it will do that, WILL IT ????????????????

Gear ratios/mph per 000 for RS as follows:

1st = 3.3/6.2

2nd = 1.94/10.5

3rd = 1.31/15.6

4th = 1.03/19.8

5th = 0.84/24.3

Therefore max speed at 7k is

1st = 43

2nd = 74

3rd = 109

4th = 139

5th = 170.1

It's difficult to say...as I don't think many..if anyone...has swapped between the 2.

Stuart had an custom built Allard FMIC but the inlet/outlet pipes were too small for the IHI and restricted flow.....thus reducing potential power/torque output...now got a Jabba FMIC and power is back to what was expected.

Needless to say both are good products.

I brelieve FocusZtec has gone the Forge route as he got a "good deal" might be worth PM ing him for his thoughts, I believe hes done a fair amount of car tuning before in his Focus days so should be reosnably knowledgable

Only bit of advice I will add is decide what your final goal for the car is & make sure the intercooler is big enough (personal experience)

Best advice is to decide who will be tuning your car & then talk to them at length.

I always wanted the Jabba IHI kit but their intercooler wasnt ready in time for the Cannonball 2 years ago so Allards very kindly made me a custom one at extremely short notice (2 days)& it performed fantastically up until we went Big Turbo route then the pipework was a little restrictive. Had I known then what I know now I could have got Allards to spec bigger pipework. I have no critisism of them, great company & brilliant value for money

Personally I would research what you want to do at length & then work with one tuner, that way if it dosent work you have some comeback. Ive found Jabba to be dead straight & Ive ended uop with the 350 bhp I always wanted with a very wide power delivery.

Whatever you do dont focus solely on the bhp. My Octy when mapped to 225 bhp could be driven far quicker on average roads than my previous 290 bhp Impreza. With the Octy the power was always there or there abouts due to a wide powerband, the scoob was nothing for ages then a big kick before it was all over again, look at RR Graphs that people have. IMO theres no point waiting until you are way up the rev band before anything happens & then it needs to happen for a long time

Couldn't agree more. My Octy now has 231 bhp, but more importantly 251 lbf of torque. The power comes in when the boost comes in at about 2000 rpm and doesn't tail off until approaching 6000 rpm. There is always bags of useable power :thumbup: :thumbup:

It feels *significantly* faster than before with 216 bhp and 226 lbf :D :D

My point exactly. Re-mapped with the standard turbo there's almost no lag and it feels like driving a 3 litre engine. Ultimately there's not a huge amount of power compared to some cars here, but for the cut and thrust of normal road driving the accessible torque is great -Same as the arguments for a TDI, but with greater flexibility and much more out-right power.

On my low boost setting I have a minimum of 300Nm from 2k all the way to 7k.....very progressive and driveable....the torque curve is very flat.

I would say it drives much better than when I had "just" a remap.

This is my every day driving setting and is very good.....I very rarely use the high boost mode as I find I don't really need to....it's nice to have something in reserve though. ;):D
