Best oil not 5W-30

Featured Replies

That will do.  Nothing special or 'best', just good oil.

As long as you get 5w 40 Full Synthetic to VW 502 00.

From Asda, Tesco, Comma oil or anyplace selling oil is all that matters. All do a better job in a twincharger than Castrol 5W 30 FS Long Life or even Quantum,

or maybe other 5W 30 to VW 504 00 (Long Life for variable servicing.)

Change it at least every 10,000 miles in a Twincharger and fit a new Oil filter.

THANKS.

Is 5 lt enough for a full change

Sure, 5 liter is enough. The car takes maximum 3.6 liter, so keep the rest.

Do not overfill.  The capacity is 3.6 litres.

But you might find that 3.6 litres does not have the Oil at the top of the Cross hatch with a Cold Check, and not with a AT OPERATING Temperature check.

But do not overfill.!!!!!!

Nice one many thanks. And - please - remind me.. not NGK plugs when annual service.. but.. which ones? (REVO car)

Thanks

DENSO SKJ 20CR

Your first link is them.

Someplaces will have PKJ's.

Euro car parts do DENSO VK20 and others have used them, i have not, i use what i know works and lasts and causes no issues.

Nice one many thanks. Car's already running like a dream but no harm in giving it the best.

Alas having contacted the REVO accredited service guy I use, he wont allow customers to supply/specify anything differently from what's on his books.

So which plugs does he want to fit to a stage 2, 7's or 8s.  and do they recommend changing or checking ever 5,000 miles or so?

If they are guaranteeing their work then fine, use the NGK's.

NGK BKR7EIX. He reckons annually is A OK.

I'm umming & arrign about seeing if my local indy mechanic would be a better option. I've used him for a few cars over the last decade & he's honest, and skilled.

He's got a good diagnostic setup & will be 100% flexible regarding oil, filter, plugs etc.

What he ISNT is a certified REVO dealer, so this could potentially de-value the car if I decide to sell in the future.

Saying all that.. the car is running sweetly & doesn't really seem to use oil.

DENSO SKJ 20CR

For the MK2 Fabia vRS, Opie Oils list the Denso Iridium Tough Spark Plug VK20G or the Denso Extended Platinum Spark Plug PKJ20CR8. Reckon it's still worth getting the SKJ20CR?

Its your choice what you want to use.

mmmRacer in Australia used VK20 i seem to remember & he has Stage 2.   Maybe others that have used VK20 or PKJ can say how well they last.

i think i've bought the skj20 before and they seemed fine. In good condition when i took them out. I always change them every 10,000 miles anyway, but just wondered if there was any difference in them.

And this is why I say that, except for reasons of extending tip life, iridium and platinum plugs in road engines are more snake oil.

Worth a read, especially for those that know nothing much about the engines or the consumables.

Issue is even the original OEM plugs or the updated later OEM plugs and the revised plug gap can be gubbed in 10,000 miles.

or 1 spark plug can be,

so the proper plugs with the correct gap can be good 30,000 miles on, and those are not what Skoda says you should fit,

the ones Audi do fit though are very good.

So a 1,390 cc engine with a Turbo & Supercharger and 132kw Min running on the recommended 98 ron (99) Super Unleaded which has Fundamental Design

& Manufacturing faults might as well get what is needed to get a decent life from that engine.

Top plugs in picture are DENSO after 35,000 miles and taken from the same engine as the bottom OEM removed after 25,000 miles from new.

The LH plug in the lower set is melted rather than opened up or eroded.

Exactly.

The issue with the engines in this thread.

The engines in the 1,800 CAVE in the Mk2 Fabia vRS 2010-2012 with a greater than 1 in 3 failure rate, and which even replacement engines have failed in.

Many reason, but one of which is a single spark plug burning a tip and mis-firing or even breaking off.

The Manufacturers Service Regime / Schedule / guidelines were to change the spark plugs at 40,000 miles.

& then the OEM plugs were changed but not the schedule / guidelines, and even after dozens of failures the manufactures still did nothing with a TPI to

dealerships / technicians.

vxh26 / vxh28 you are rather fun, and full of helpful information, none of it to do with maintaining or running a Fabia Twincharger.

You always tell that owners they are best running the car standard with the recommended oil and plugs and petrol and yet you are always ignoring that is 98 octane Super & not 97 ron.

The OP's car has Software & Hardware modifications running a REVO Stage 2 map.

What do you guys think.. I've got a dilemma here when the next service comes around..

1. stick with REVO supplier for servicing. Good stamp in the book.

2. use my long-standing indy mechanic, which would allow me to specify whatever plugs & oil etc. He's not a REVO man, or a Skoda specialist, but a good trustworthy guy, who's looked after a few of ours cars over the last decade.

Are these REVO 2 cars too technical for a non-specailist indy? Car's running great, but do like the idea of 5w 40 and Denso plugs (thanks to Offski)

Does anyone buying a Stage 2 modified Twincharger really care about Stamps in a Service book.

They might want to see Receipts from a trusted Mechanic or Technician that they can call up and get the information on how the car was cared for,

Dyno Sheets and the likes.

Admit I'm leaning towards my usual guy.. esp wanting to specify the oil & plugs  (think I mentioned Mr REVO gave me a flat 'no').

I'll sound him out I think .. he's honest & if for any reason not happy to look after it, he'll say so.
