Skoda fabia 1.4 auto buying advice...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Kinda new to the forum (previously had a 65 plate Octavia but couldn't remember my details).

Before the Octavia I had tended to have Audi's/BMWs, had a 2014 Mini Cooper S before the Octavia, but was massively impressed with the Skoda, it was so much car for the money...

I've been carless for a while but am moving out of London in January so am after a little run around which I plan to keep for a couple of years.

It must be an auto and I don't want to spend more than £3k, ideally around £2k (cheaper the better essentially).

Having realised how much car you get for the money with skida a mk1 Fabia (the odd mk2 is also in budget) is a serious contender...

The majority of autos seem to be the 1.4 petrol and there are plenty around with pretty low miles/FSH.

Is there any reason not to buy one? Any pitfalls to be aware of? Things to look out for?

Other options are fiesta/fusion/polo/jazz...but fabia seems to be cheapest...

Cheers,

Ryan

Never driven a Furbie with a slushbox, but the Jazz with CVT is the best "small auto" I've ever driven; it doesn't even have the crashy ride that a manual Jazz has (based on examples of both over the same roads).

How does that even work, you'd think the auto and manual Jazz would have exactly the same suspenders, maybe wheels and tyres were different.

I know.

The tyres are different, but pretty much everything else is the same, right down to the supplying dealership.

My mate bought a brand-new Jazz (manual), and I was surprised at how crashy the ride was. Seems a good car otherwise.

Well, that clearly means that that's "not just me". The CVT is honestly better riding though, and I can't see how that can be just different make (but same size) tyres.

It's ok and if you can get it cheap enough then fine. But it's a very old tech gearbox (think it's a 4 speed) and does have some common problems with the valve body and corroding electrical connectors.

The best small autos are generally Honda Civic 1.6 or Jazz 1.4 CVT.

Even an Octavia 1.6 auto with sat-nav is in your budget:

It's the same tax bracket as the Fabia 1.4 auto but better on fuel (much newer 6 speed gearbox).

Yes it's an odd thing.
