Back from the body shop & tyre technology.

Featured Replies

I got my car back from the body shop yesterday after my incident on Christmas Eve.

No dents and no scratches I am very happy again. I will try to clean it over the weekend my mate did clean it yesterday for me but it was dark and he missed stuff. I have loads of little scratches caused by my bad brush I was looking at another thread the other day and someone says that scratch X was good any one find this? (Brought new sponge today)

A guy in my running club owns a tyre garage, I took my Rs there to day to get quotes for tyres and took all the air out of my tyres and replaced it with Nitrogen? He is the only garage in our area that is offering this service.

1. Safer motoring better road holding and handling.

2. Longer tread life up to 25% increase in tyre life.

3. Reduced fuel consumption up to 5% reduction in fuel consumption.

4. No oxidation no water vapour or oxygen means no corrosion of wheels.

You only need to check the tyre pressure every six months and he will do that free of charge I am going to keep an closer eye on that but this is what he says. Please look at the web site for more info as I am cr*^p with this kind of thing.

Good to hear you got your car back in good nick. However, filling your tyres with nitrogen may reduce slow normal pressure loss, however, you still need to regularly check pressures in case you get a slow puncture. Claims for reduction in tyre wear and improvement in fuel economy and handling are I believe related to assuming that without nitrogen filling, your tyres spend most of the time at the wrong pressures. Check them regularly and I doubt you will ever be able to tell the difference. Certainly a couple of people I know who did it two or three years ago could not tell.

Chris

I fail to see how filling your tyres with nitrogen is better in anyway over filling them with air, assuming you check your tyres regularly with an accurate pressure gauge, and avoid kerbs and potholes.

Seems like snakeoil to me.

I wonder if filling the tyres with Helium would make the car lighter.

Damn it you beat me to it! :D I was gonna say he should have filled up his tyres with helium, his handling would rise to the skies!

Hmm

99.998% of air is made up of:

Nitrogen 78.084%

Oxygen 20.947%

Argon 0.934%

Carbon Dioxide 0.033%

the small remainder is other gases.

So you're practically filling them with Nitrogen anyway.

All the 'better fuel economy' etc claims for nitrogen filled tyres are what you'd get from ensuring the tyres are correctly inflated anyway, which of course you should be doing at a really bare minimum of every two weeks whatever 'air' is in them.

Also note - our local Police force in Sussex had a study done on cars involved in crashes in the county and there is a strong correlation between accidents and incorrectly pressured tyres.

I won't Fu****g bother next time. :finger:

It was something new to me and it cost me nothing to do, would you have turned it down just because of the science did not make sense.

When the air comes out of a compressor it is full of moisture and this can effect the inside of the tyre with the Nitrogen there is no moisture at all.

Whoa dude chill out! They're just messin' with you!

Yes.

Scratch X does work well. Used it on my old black octy vrs with good results. Tried it on my friends black t5 and he was very impressed how it looked after a couple of applicatons.

If you're talking swirl marks, then Swissol cleaner wax followed by Swissol wax will diminish severely the swirl marking.

However, a decent washing regime will be needed so as to not increase whats already present.
