Brake sizes

Featured Replies

Is there a way to find out what size brakes should be on my 2.0cr 140 combi, without calling dealer or physically measuring? starting to get a bit of squeaking, and i noticed the rear pads were a little lower than i liked when i collected the car altho the dealer assured me they were within their standards, going to spend a little time and see if i cant get some bargains on fleebay for genuine discs and pads all round before the squeaking turns into scraping

Find the car data sticker on the boot floor and look for one of the following PR codes that describes your rear brakes: 1KS, 1KJ, or 2EA.

Cross-reference that code to one of the last three sections on this page. Codes in right-hand column.

Disc diameters in next column leftwards. If you click on the links you can see all pertinent part numbers for each PR variant.

I have 1KJ rear brakes which means (i think) that i have 286mm solid rear discs, anything to lookout for on my product codes for front brakes? or are they the same across the engines? only one i see listed on that catalogue are 340mm vented fronts which seem a little large for a 2.0 tdi

I'm seeing 1ZE-288mm; 1ZA -312mm, or 1LA-340mm as the options for the fronts.

Front brake PR codes don't always appear on the data stickers, but have a look.

Don't have any of those codes on my data sticker, i know on the older pd140 they had 288 standard, not sure if this carried over to the superb or whether they put the 312mm on with it being a larger car, guess ill have to whip a wheel off and get the tape measure out,

You could download the full car data pdf from erWin Skoda for 7 Euros plus VAT (or get it for free if you're on good terms with your local dealership).

Tape measure is slightly tricky 'cos of the sticky-out bit in the middle, but you could cut a shallow |____| shape out of cardboard with 312mm between left and right ends.

Offer that up tips-first and you'll soon see if yours are that size, or smaller, or larger.

Get the wheels of and check the "inboard" pad closely...
Mine were squealing so ordered full set and on removal both inner rear pads were nearly on metal and outers had about 3mm left.

Mine measured 312mm on front but mine is a 4X4 140

I would also advise about Black Diamond Predator pads from Demom Tweeks.
Fitted them on the rear at first only and difference was amazing and today have fitted the fronts and can now say that I am well pleased at the braking performance of the car and the fronts have still to bed in :nerd:
Less than £40

Mine is 1.6 TDI Greenline II - 312mm, I measured using a ruler, approximately got 310- its much smaller than 340 and much bigger than 288. Cant go wrong by measuring.
