Sing for me misty !

Featured Replies

Good evening all.

I have a 2014 Superb estate 2.0 DSG.

In October 2014 & 2015 I had no problems with the car.

October of this year, as the weather started to turn, I have had issues with the heating system.

Basically, I cannot use the heater without having the aircon on permanently.

If I turn the aircon off, ALL the windows in the car mist up almost immediately. Sometimes the windscreen will even mist if I have no heater running and my window open an inch.

This seems to have coincided with a 'noise', which I can only describe as a 'buzz/rattle'. This seems to be located upper right hand side of the passenger footwell, to the right hand side of the pollen filter.

Has anybody any ideas/suggestions (clean ones please !!) as to what may be happening/any know issues.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Blocked pollen filter?

Dave

If you turn off the aircon the windows will steam up as the aircon unit has dehumidifier built into it.

Why do you want to turn the aircon off?.

By leaving it on no windows should mist up as it 'conditions' the air by removing moisture - therefore no misted up windows. I would expect the windows to mist up pretty quickly this time of year with no air con and lots of damp air around.

Damp air + heat = misted windows.

I never ever turn my aircon off no matter what the time of year.

Thanks for your replies.

I have replaced the pollen filter.

I have not had this problem in the previous 2 periods at this time of the year. This only started this year.

As a taxi driver, the price rise in fuel is bad enough without spending another 10% running around with the aircon on !!

up your rates in winter

Its no where near 10% more maybe about 3%.

I have done back to back full tanks using Fuelly and only seen about 3% sometimes less with A/C on  all time .And I taxi a 140 4X4 Combi. :nerd:

I have had my Superb 4x4 170 Elegance for 5 years and have never switched my a/c off. My Fuelly figures show 44 mpg which covers both city and high speed continental driving. The comfort it gives, quality of filtered air and never misting no matter how wet we are when we get in makes it worth the 1.5 mpg I lose.

I'm certainly not arguing with the benefits of aircon however, personally, I do switch it off a lot.  I find continuous aircon use (whether in a car or office etc) plays havoc with my sinuses and I also have mild asthma which is affected by aircon if I use it a lot.  Maybe its just me....
