Mysterious rattle from passenger side

Featured Replies

So had a few days with my new Octavia MK3 and love it. However there is one niggle that's really irritatig me. There's a rattle coming from the left hand side passenger door. I think that's the general region but driving it's hard to fathom as the sound is only present when in motion. It's not consistently there but my god once tuned into it, it's hard to ignore. I know some others have had issues judging from the forum. Just wondered if there was a known loose clip etc I could investigate?

Might be a long shot but plug the Passenger side seatbelt into the clip by the seat. If the rattle stops it's the red release button thats rattling. I had this on my 63 plate MKIII Vrs.

Took me weeks to find it, worth a punt. Dealer replaced the complete seat belt clip under warranty.

I had this stupid rattle coming from the seat height adjuster.

I thought it was coming from the door and a few months later :swear: I finally found the source...

My colleagues have the same rattle in their O3s.

Gave that a spin and sadly the noise was still present. Trying to get the wife in the car over the next few days to hear it. Don't think it's the sunglasses compartment as it's seeming to come from more over to the left. Tried the height adjuster and there is some waggle in the leaver but also don't think it's that.

Worth a punt though, hope you find the rattle as they tend to do your head in

Keep Looking you'll find it ...............One day.................perhaps

I had something similar and it was the seat height adjuster. Last one did the same...until I figured it out I assumed it was in the door or something.

It will most likely be the seat belt adjuster cover. A bit of card will stop it.

I had the same and with other replies it was the seat height adjuster

It's an Octavia feature they don't advertise.

I bought some small, self-adhesive felt dots in varying sizes from the local hardware shop.

One of the smallest attached to the seat under the lever resolve this and prevented the lever vibrating against the seat at certain frequencies...

(I have a few dotted around in other areas as well - a good purchase!)

Trying to get the wife in the car over the next few days to hear it.

Another one to check: bottom of A pillar meeting at far left of dash. Had a rattle which turned out was the two rubbing together. Also check the bonnet release handle which is made of hard, cheap style plastic which is a rattle potential if a bit loose.

Good luck!

Yep I also had an A pillar trim rattle, winscreen replacement fixed the problem. :)

Right, I've finally got to the bottom of it. Turns out there were several little rattles. Removed the passenger seat and found a 20p that was stuck near the track. Then I one of the wiring looms had also come slightly unclipped on the rear of the seat. I nipped up the seat height adjuster but still had this little niggley noise that would come and go. I have since used superior ears, one of my kids, and found a final rattle coming from the seat belt stalk on the passenger side. Does anyone know if replacing the stalk will require it to be coded in or if I can just swop it with a new one?

Hi guys, anymore ideas? 2015 vRS here and there's a rattling noise coming from around the passenger side a-pillar. I've opened up the pillar trim and I still couldn't locate the source of the  rattle and it's driving me nuts! Checked the seat height adjuster (electric seats) and the seat belt adjuster as well.

Are you sure you mean the A-pillar? The front sloping pillar between front windscreen screen and front  door.

90% percent of rattle complaints refer to the B-Pillar (front seat belt is attached to it), the other 30% from behind the facia.......and probably another 20% from elsewhere. :)

Yes, so far I've investigated the A-pillar only, at least that's where I think where the rattling noise is coming from, but I may be wrong.

I'll try to investigate the b-pillar now.

Hi everyone, I finally found the source of the rattling noise from the a-pillar area after weeks of searching.

For mine, the source of the noise is at the top of the a-pillar where it joins the roof. The noise seems to be coming from inside the cavity, so to not make any mess, I sprayed some WD40 PTFE dry lubricant into the tiny opening pictured after opening the a-pillar trim. The pillar opening is just enough for the wd-40 straw to get in... after 1-2 sprays..the noise is gone instantly! ...So there you have it, it's good to have my quiet car back after weeks of searching.. Hopefully this post helps somebody else!

Sorry for the thread revival. I've bought a 2017 model about a week ago and developed a rattle from what I think is the passenger side. All bolts under dash tight, door latch also not that and height adjusters on seats and b pillars can't find find much on that either can't think what else it could be. Any help is appreciated.

Post a video of your rattle and we will try and help.
