1 dodgy locking wheel nut

Featured Replies

The unlocking device that slips onto the threaded nuts works ok on 3 of them, but on one, it has to be hammered in to grip, and then of course it's an absolute animal to take out again.

Are these wheel nuts unique to each individual Fabia vRS, or just generally available as a one part fits all??

Edited by Adenuf

They're part of a wide set. Have you tried using a Dremmel to 'clean' the bolt?

Hi Adenuf, the adaptor is not unique, there are a number of variations, so one adaptor won't fit every Skoda vehicle. I believe that there are 20 - 30 variations. I wonder if one of your wheel lug bolts has somehow been swapped out for one that does not match the other three wheels. I understand that there is a letter code on both the wheel bolts and on the adaptor, it would pay to check this to see if this is what has happened.

Warrior193.

Just buy a standard wheel nut before its too late.

Mine was too late and thanks to a tyre place probably overtightened couldn't get it off, but I did also get them to remove it too

Then just bought a nut for a quid or so. Far cheaper than a replacement full set for £20 ish.

Who goes out the way to look for, and steal one alloy out of 4 which is the worst case.

- If they were that despertate for some basic 16 alloys then they are welcome.

I wouldn't overthink it personally, just get a new nut unless you have some really valuable Alloys (but on a Fabia1 - or in fact any car- why ?)

Good point, well stated!

I'll try the dremel  as suggested, clean it out and see what happens, if not, your plan B beckons, as as you rightly say, once it's jammed on, I'm stuffed.

I suspect an over zealous tyre fitter has not put it on properly before tightening, and damage the thready spliney  bits on the nut

Skoda dealer will sell you a new adapter which includes one new locking wheel bolt for £18.50

Maybe ask for an increase in your pocket money?

Really ? These cars are pocket money nowadays :D Well 1/5 of what they originally cost and even that wasn't much.
