Badass dongle finally fitted and working today 

 

Wish I'd done it last year.  Bike now feels how it should be.  Move the spoke magnet an inch to the left and it's back to 15.5mph.  An inch to the right and it's unrestricted.

 

Might sound daft, but it actually feels safer.  Cars are now far less likely to squeeze past me where there's not really enough room and they're being impatient.

Been playing around with a new app myself.

This one modifies the power delivery curves against pedal strokes. So far I am impressed as less exertion on the pedals means less battery consumption even in higher motor setting.

And it de-restricts the speed limiter. 

What sort of speeds do you get on the flat now with a reasonable pedalling effort?

TBH, I haven’t measured the speed yet, but with the speed restricted, in the highest gear, I could feel the motor decoupling once it reached 15mph. When that happens it breaks your cadence, so you lose speed. Then the motor kicks in again & you pick up speed until 15mph..... decouples ..... lose speed.......it’s not fluid enough for me.

One of the problems with the Badass is it tricks the speed sensing so my display now reads between five and nine mph no matter what. So until I put an old cycle pooter on I won’t know for sure. It feels like 22-24mph, but with a  bit of effort I was keeping up with urban traffic. Jon’s spot on about fluidity and cadence - without it cutting out at 15 I’m far more able to tick along in eco mode, which is great.

Lots of fun in the Snow on the EB but much more care needed compared to riding the Fat Bike and pure pedal power.

Ice under powdery snow!!!

Further and faster though without effort.

 

Forget the speed, that never happened.

Just the temperature, pure dead tropical other than at 15 mph into a 20 mph wind.

Just a wonderful morning ride today after rain and sleet yesterday then a cold night.

2*-3*oC and 14 miles in 90 minutes with camera stops.  used 40% of battery at 60% assistance.

A perfect morning.  The river South Esk to Cortachy, then the Prosen. 

15 miles with some assisted cycling north / uphill, and that gives 15 miles back un-assisted. 

 Back in time to watch the best day of the Giro D'Italia live.

Had a we ride this morning.

In the past 2 weeks of heat i have been getting 30 miles plus of range. 

This morning about 10*oC cooler and a head wind & used more assist and run out of battery power 1 miles from home at 26 miles.

 

Still loved it at the Scott View Monument.  No view from there today though due to the mist...

Wonderful weather still in the mid 20's, and i am loving doing routes around Glamis, empty roads.

Lots of gentle uphills and great downhills. Much extending range of the battery.

At over 1,500 miles in under 10 months it was showing 96% battery health.  It has worked out at 26 miles per charge cycle but i get over 30 miles out of a charge quite regularly.

My new Full Sus E-bike has arrived.

Excited to see how it performs.

Happy with it, it is a large, i usually have XL or as big as i can get and i will wait a few days till i see if i want a higher stem or bars. It was good climbing and descending as it is right out the box. Even the front and rear shock are right as they are but not checked what the pressures are at.

I will check what range it has later and get it into the hills tomorrow.

 

the assist is totally different from how my Specialized Turbo Levo is in the different modes, and i am going to stick with it for using on the road as it is carrying everything i need for using further away from home or where ever, it is really big and heavy for putting in cars or on bike racks.

 

Not pretty but has all i wanted like the 27.5 x 2.8 tyres, dropper post, Bosch motor & Rochshox.

Happy now. Climbs very well.

I Dropped the pressure in the shocks, increased the tyres. 

Stem riser fitted, Specialised Body Geometry grips and saddle fitted.

Bar power shifter is great, Turbo has quite a kick when needed, Sport gives E-MTB setting, and the range is showing at about 35 miles, did 30 miles and it showed 6 miles left.

Going to have watch for peddle strikes as under compression they are pretty low.

 

Just tried it again on a 5 mile run with a Full Battery Charge and Trail is showing 40 mile range and ECO 50 miles .  Nice and easy to put to 'off' when coasting and easy to peddle on the flat when 'off'.

The new bike is great, lighter and shorter and easy to get over fences and 'Locked Gates' on right of ways.

This is Finavon Hill looking to the North & Angus Glens, and under @ the South Esk under the A90 Dual Carriageway.  No other way to cross at Finavon, and prone to flooding so out of commission on occasions. Getting across the A90 is a problem because it has cut so many old routes down off the hills and into the valley but with only very dangerous junctions or crossings, and fly overs are many miles apart.

Being run over by a combine harvester is maybe not the best way to go .

My PV panels' output graph yesterday was a remarkably similar shape (to Ailsa Craig).  Isn't that where the rock is quarried for the best curling stones?

And fond memories of a rushed drive in a strong westerly but bright sun, up from Scotland's southernmost B&B to catch the Ardrossan to Brodick ferry for a "Wildlife of Arran" week's guided holiday based at Lamlash.  That was in my little Mk1 Fabia 1.4tdi PD, remapped to 99bhp, once over 2,000rpm it really flew, sounded quite flat-six Porsche-esque, and the lighter 3-cylinder engine made it perhaps more wieldy than a 1.9tdi PD 4-cylinder.   It got us there without drama, the gale flinging salt spray across the lines of vehicles queueing to board.  Ferry crossing was fine, the closer we got to Arran the less the swell, thanks to the shelter of it's hills.
