My Works 705SE doesn't require any weight on the pedals, let alone effort.  So long as the pedals are turning it'll bob you along at 15mph :blush  I can see now why people choose hubs over crank drives for commuting.

50 miles is good going.  I haven't got past the early 40's, and that's when I'm being really good and energetic :wondering:

Ah, so yours is not a pedelec, the pedals are only for switching on the motor.

Yes I didn't want that type ,( think they called it candence)

Hence I went for the torque where I have to pedal hard as well

If I'm honest I bought one mainly to loose a bit timber around the midriff and so having great fun riding it

Just need to look for a cheap fit band thingy to monitor heart rate etc

Jawbone or xiamoi mi band 2

There are getting to be some very interesting E-Bikes on sale now.

I have tried various ones now but still not going for one.

Maybe needs must might apply if my driving licence is ever taken away.....

This is my favourite descent on a road either down the south side as is being ridden up here or down the other side which is even better,

never ridden up the A93 to Glenshee though on a push bike.

Yes, quite so.  I bought it so I could try a hub drive over a longer period.  Trouble is my Wife has taken a liking to it, and it has now become hers.  Neither of us are anywhere near fit, but I can cycle a lot further than she can (I did 42 miles yesterday - furthest I've gone in one go for probably more than a decade).

However :speechless:

We went out for a lovely 15 mile ride today across the Pevensey levels.  Bit breezy (18mph) but otherwise great.  On the way back we had a bit of a race into the headwind.  My crank drive switches off its power at 15.5mph.  Once she got to around 19mph on throttle and pedalling, I was pretty much done for :o  She on the other had was gleeful.

I've decided I'm not going to like the Wisper any more.  At least not until I have my dongle fitted or I get a speed pedelec.  Pram, dummy, spat :notme::biggrin:

My bike has a front hub drive but is a pedelec, controlled by a torque sensor which measures chain torque and adds a multiplier of that (0, +50%, +100% or +150%) through the front hub motor (acting as a torque motor).

However, I experienced the motor cycle mode too recently when water got into the connector on the torque sensor. It was nice to be able to stop pedalling and still keep going under power. I found also that I could control the road speed by switching between the three assist levels!

Got my new Pedal Assist bike set up now as i like.

It is a Specialized Turbo Levo HT Comp 6Fattie.

I was not going to mess with the 15 / 16 mph assistance but thought WTF i might as well see what is possible, so i did some tweaking  for 'Offroad' use only, and 25 mph as a cut out point seemed to be a good place just incase i was 'tail gated' by some JCB fast trak, raging bull or the likes when not on the Public Highways.

(forget that many tracks in Scotland are the Public Highway.)

I am rather pleased the big brakes slow it down well enough and that the tyres had sufficient grip.  Well until the heavens opened.

So back to standard settings now that i know what is possible,  the Specialised 'Mission Control App' is very good for setting the power available in ECO, Trail or Turbo and when you start pedalling Turbo is the default what ever Mode you are in..

The Pedal Assist is really good and getting me quickly up high to get fun while still fresh and then giving more options for rides without assistance.

I am getting 10 miles from 25% usage of the battery.  That is with some quite short sharp and longer uphills using 50% or 100% power then back to 20% until climbing again.

The brakes and tyres are really rather good off and on road.

(I am getting myself into places i have not been for years without having to have done lots of pushing and i need to remember my skills are not up to some of the places, especially when in the slate quarries and riding next to drop offs.)

That looks like a nice spot to ride. I'm hoping to change jobs soon, and one of the options would just about be feasible to commute  by bike, or quite easy to commute by e-bike. I really miss being able to cycle, and it would give me the opportunity to buy a new toy as well.

Do it, do it Dr Z - e-bikes are the future!

2nd Childhood time!

What fun just riding past roadies with their heads down into a headwind on a climb is while upright on a mountain bike just because you can.

Then just turning offroad and heading easily along routes that can be really hard work for the rather heavy and unfit rider. eg Me.

Having been for the interview, I don't actually want the job.

Good to be able to have perspective in these things.

Buy yourself a new toy on the rebound?

Zefal Mudguards fitted because they were a necessity really and are proving to be very good in muddy conditions but also this morning riding the road in heavy rain.

I highly recommend them.

200 miles covered now & that has required 6 charges and sitting with 100% charge, so over 35 miles worth of riding from where i have been going up to now.

On ECO & Trail mode 50 miles plus range should be easily available but i have had it on Turbo lots up to now climbing and some town riding.

That leaves potentially 694 charges according to the Specialized Mission Control App.

Helmet always on now when out riding on or offroad and Hi-Viz Backpack on if not wearing a Hi-Viz Vest or Jacket.

I wanted a rear view mirror and was not going to splash out on anything that might be no use so spent £3.00 on 2 from Amazon to see what they might be like,

and i wanted ones that would take getting knocked about.

So they proved to be totally useless but then what would you expect for £1.50, only there are ones that might be as bad for much more.

Just as well then that my friendly Local Motor Factor had a Blind Spot stick on mirror in for £1.50.

This stuck onto the bike mirror is really good, and he is getting me another couple in for tomorrow.

Happy as Larry i am....

Zefal Cyclop are supposed to be really good mirrors. I've got one, haven't fitted it yet though.

Loving this Autumn / Harvest time.  Not much on backroads other than harvesters & tractors, and the odd nipping on pick up.

Still heading uphill at the start of rides and using tracks and trails, but now using more roads and cycle path / pavement routes and then reversing rides and heading back uphill with pedal assist before heading home, and without being totally gubbed so much more able to take in the wildlife etc and still do a fair distance.

(now starting to use less pedal assist to start getting ready for winter rides without pedal assist as really it not giving anything like as much exercise and everything is pretty easy..)

30 miles possible with lots of 100% assistance and 40+ miles with mixed assistance and still about 10% battery left.

Bike Box coming to me from the supplier for me to pack bike in and then have a carrier collect & return it for fault finding.

Motor Drive slipping or Mountings or some issue causing loud clunking and cracking noises and like a gubbed bottom bracket except there is no bottom bracket.

I contacted my local Specialized Dealer who are very good & would check it out for me but if it needs a replacement motor that would have required sending the bike back anyway.

Hopefully not away for too long until sorted out.

Cheers,

read them all before i got it, various other forums and knew about the firmware updates etc, even about clunks and easing off as you shift under load, but actually i can climb in the highest gear and no down shifting, and the highest is really too low even on the flat and especially down hill.

Really not found any mention of what i am getting which feels like a stripped spline or similar, but i have not seen what the interior of a motor looks like.

(Must check out a serious of youtube vids from a guy in the UK that i think did mention his engine been replaced in one vid.)

My big error really was not buying local and i may well regret that but will see how things go getting it fixed and hopefully without it taking for ever.

No intention on giving up on it as the bike i borrowed before buying had been well abused and with no issues.

I see the 2018 bike is out in Grey.

PS

Found him, just need to find which Vlog it was in.

PPS.  Found it #5,  had enough of him now, full of info, just not what i wanted to know, what breaks in the motor, and weeks if a new motor is needed.

Actually #4 covers it, cant delete these vids now.

My Panicking is over.

It was & is not a Motor issue, i did some tweaking yesterday of the power settings and had a long ride & tried to figure out what was happening, still clunking,

and then i adjusted the Rear Mech & front chain retainer and things were much better but still there was something up.

I put a new chain on this morning, checked the tension on the rear mech, indexing was fine, and just did 24 miles with all working fine.

My big error really, but as the bike was behaving it was very different from a standard push bike just not indexed.

Bike box not arrived yet, but i will not be sending it back now.
