CAVE+ Fabia VRS MK2 Future Mods + OEM upgrades?

Recommended Posts

Looking at a few Simple mods now my VRS has had the oil problem sorted.

So mine is now a CAVE+ ,All major items completed on service August 2016 (filters etc..)

But i would like to know what other OEM items might need 'uprating' based on the list below now i am at 35,000 miles

I am not planning on tracking the car or anything and the suspension for me is firm enough.

December 2016 I am booked in for a Dyno run and a Milltek Cat Back.

1. Fit Denso Spark Plugs & Dyno Run as is.

2. Milltek to be fitted + 25KG Weights Removal.

3. ECU map possibly to around 200bhp depending on 1st Dyno run BHP (Im not aiming for the max)

So other OEM items then, is it worth replacing these next year for 'uprated' in future:

4. Uprated Brakes Discs + Pads (mine have never been replaced but mine still feel really good , ive never known OEM brakes last this long?)

What Type is worthy of upgrading too other than replacing like for like)

5. Uprated Coil Packs (Audi A1 Type?)

6. Forge Twin Charged TSi Blow Off Dump Valve Kit.

7. K & N Air filter (only just had OEM one fitted at service)

thanks!

Seriously i would Dump the Dump Valve idea and get a GFB DV+ diverter valve.

Chop the K&N filter because a fresh paper one will do the job unless getting the filter wet worries you.

If you want go and not just noise there are upgrades that can do that. Just not the FORGE BOV or K&N filter.

This car was quick for not much money after the right bits were on, just don't count the bits bought and then removed.

(some of the 1/4 mile runs are on youtube.)

Thanks offski, how easy is the GFB DV+ filter to fit (time wise), i will ask the tuning shop about this - might be worth getting it done whilst the milltek is fitted! They charge £40 per hour for extra's, cant imagine it taking that long.

I have read that first link many times, very interesting mods !

Yep ur right on the money George, if mapped GFB dv+ is a must mines has long been sold I could have sold it 10 times over. It takes 15mins to fit as I have big fingers in a tight space! Forge bov is a no no as it can leak boost. If u want noise get the ITG induction kit as the k&n doesn't give any gains over the paper filter

Does the ITG induction kit require smaller battery ? Sure i read this somewhere.  Think will leave the air filter type stuff till next service

So for the GFB dv+ will these be OK below? not sure why 2 links but they look the same?

The ones in your earlier link are not the correct type - the seller was right. The correct type and shape for 1.4 TSI engines is the one in your last link from AMD, the correct product number is: DV+ T9355

If I'm not mistaken I must still have mine in a drawer in the storage. PM me if you're interested.

PS. There's also some other stuff still available, info here:

U could relocate the battery to the boot but I would just put he induduction hose down the side of the battery!

I have updated the brade disks on my GTI with EBC Green Stuff Pads (DP21517) and EBC Blade Series Brake Discs (BSD818), part numbers may differ.

They are some of the best brakes ive fitted on the car and vastly improve the stopping distance. Bit noisey at first but soon goes.

Bit new to these engines.

I have a "good" one where Oil use isn't a great issue.

Not really thought of maps and stuff like that because of the oil use. Don't want to spoil the engine too much.

So what does the diverter valve do?

I have a VWR polo air filter in mine. Seems to be ok. Wouldn't say it made any massive difference though.

I am going to be stage 0.75 In December (not quite a stage 1) This DV+ part will help, also its lower risk mod.

  • 3 weeks later...

Right Dyno run with no mods other than those done by Skoda as part of 'oil fixes' came in on my CAVE+ at 173.9BHP

Standard power they said on Cave was 177BHP.

Anyway after having the Milltek fitted + Denso Spark Plugs, removing the ridiculous weights and fitting the GFB dv+  (thanks @newbie69!)

the car achieved 193.4BHP

DYNO Graph - Before After

He could have tweaked it more but after taking it for a spin i was more than happy with the results. 4th Gear to 100mph is simply amazing. The turbo really kicks and holds

One thing they said was that on every Dyo run they have done they ALWAYS got more BHP with Shell Nitro. Mine had Tesco Momentum but I am now switching back.

They have offered another free run on the Dyno after 2 fuel top ups with Shell Nitro, be interesting to see if there is a difference.

My Old spark plugs below? No oil burn but they are getting hot maybe (white tip??)

Yeah was looking at ITG MAX but there is an extra small 'breather pipe' in the way on my engine (due to my Skoda Oil + breather pipe fixes).

It would need to fit into the ITG MAX looking at the photo on awesome GTI, will take photo tomoz of my engine, not sure how it would fit without drilling holes into the ITG

You can hear it abit here on the warm up lap but the exhaust hides it afterwards.

mines is also quiet due to the airbox set up as I’m sure I could make it louder but pretty set on that airbox set up just now.
