tweenster's Cappucino Beige Fabia Estate - New tyres

Featured Replies

@tweenster - Well, IMO white only suits a "competition car" look. Silver suits pretty much anything, particularly with a multi-spoke design.

Swap the wheels with the vRS.

Standard silver, or colour coded to the bodywork. No other way to go, in my eyes!

Today I fitted the Pure Highway 400 DAB radio and even for someone with my limited mechanical ability it was easy peasy to install and set up. I am so looking forward to listening to Planet Rock on my commute tomorrow as opposed to the usual dull offerings (I used to enjoy Radio 2 Drive Time with Simon Mayo the way home but joining up with Jo Whiley recently has completely ruined it IMHO). I didn't bother installing the holder for the control unit but have simply left the controller in the armrest.

How do I edit the thread title? I'm not seeing an 'Edit' button.

320 miles in temperatures approaching 30 degrees today to help my lad move Uni digs. Turned into a family event with Mrs T coming along and we collected our other son en route and we completed multiple return trips between old and new digs in Colchester. The car never missed a beat, was cool and comfortable and returned just over 50mpg. A beige Skoda estate is about as anonymous a car as you could get. And I love it!

After enjoying the comfort provided by 15" wheels on Mrs T's Fabia, I've been on the lookout for a cheap set for the estate, and Thursday night these popped up on ebay at a price that was too good to miss. They are genuine 6" x 15" Audi alloys, despite what it says on the centre cap! I collected them this morning and they are in extremely good condition. Just need some new tyres; Uniroyal Rainsports are currently favourites.

Nice car.

i have an identical Fabia, had it about 6 weeks now and just returned from a weeks holiday in Derbyshire.

its a great little car and doing about 47 mpg, which on some of the hills it's been up and down is very good.

Lowered the car today but the handling was dreadful. It felt like the front tyres weren't connected to the road.

Took all the breeze blocks out of the boot when I got home and things returned to normal!!!

The car has not had much TLC this year, but today I had some time to give it a wash and managed to get some Sonax BSD onto a few panels. There are a large number of tar spots that need to be addressed and there are several stonechips on the leading edge of the bonnet and front valance.  I have 15" tyres ready to be fitted for winter but I have not gone full winter spec for this car, I have put Uniroyal Rainsport 3s so looking for wet weather performance. If it gets really bad I will steel the 15s from the vRS that have proper winter (not snow) tyres.

I still haven't found a way to edit the title - any ideas?

The car has not really had any more TLC, but I did actually get around to fitting the 15" wheels. I actually quite like the look and, if anything, has made the Cappuccino Beige Skoda Fabia even more invisible, if that were possible! The ride has improved and is really quite smooth, although I wouldn't really like to 'lean' on it in the corners!

A nice update there, i have the same (ish) car but with the 1.6TDI engine, hatchback and manual....... nice though and totally invisible, guaranteed never to be stolen :)

I recently went from a mk1 fabia vrs to an Octavia l&k (for a few weeks) then swapped it for a 64 plate 1.2 SE estate. I also find the engine is very good, considering it has a mere 84bhp. I will probably get it remapped in time, but at the minute money is the issue.
I find the car pretty comfortable but a bit “wobbly” in corners compared to the vrs.

I too love the Fuel economy, I can get anything between 40-55 on the onboard display, real world will be different though.

List of things to do to mine, make the trim comparable to the elegance, so will add rear OPS and front fogs hopefully, do something to improve the dipped beam and reverse lighting situation, then rear window tints, auto dimming rear mirror, then on to the radio, but for now a cheap BT aux adaptor and TuneIn or Spotify on my mobile is doing the job.

If I’m brutally honest I was not terribly impressed with the Fabia at first, coming from the L&K Octy, but after almost 2 weeks of owning it I have been swung round and feel a strange sort of fondness for it, enough for me to want to upgrade all the things!

Today I agreed to part exchange the Fabia Estate so it is soon to be on its way. That said, I have had it for almost 4 years, covered a little over 50,000 miles in that time, and the difference between the price I paid and the part ex value is just £4550. I reckon that represents pretty good value.

That's it, the Fabia estate has gone.
