You'll never believe me..........but

Featured Replies

It all started yesterday when my Mrs. broke our shower. It is the 2nd one she has broken in the house so I have to have a bath in the morning now until it is fixed.

The problem with this however, is it takes away valuable sleeping time. But I got up at the normal time today, ran a bath, bathed the kids, then the wife ;) - and I get the last dip - lol. However, I was 15 mins late leaving the house so I was in a bit of a rush.

Fortunately my route consists of a lot of duel carriageways and I can make up a bit of time there by "running" as my 2 year old calls it. So with that in mind, I was making 'reasonable progress'. On approach to a slip road, I saw a Mitsubishi Evolution joining the duel carriageway reasonably quickly. He joined the inside, and I was coming along on the outside, approx 10 car lengths behind him and closing - as I pulled out of the 60 mph sweeping bend just after the slip road I applied full throttle, and was approx 3 car lengths from the Evo accelerating from 60 when a puff of black smoke came out of the exhaust, and the familiar whistle rasp filled the air.

Undeterred I continued with my full throttle position, still in 5th gear. My progress towards the Evo started to slow, but I was still covering ground quicker than he was [just], and as I went past I looked across - and he was looking dead straight. He then lifted - and I did and pulled ahead of him.

When we came to rest at the next roundabout, he was turning right, and I managed to read all that was plastered across the boot - it was a 54 reg FQ340.

Now what ever you make of this, it was an amicable blip on a duel carriageway, that was short lived. There could be a number of theories on how or why - but I was impressed enough with my ickle fabia :D

P.S Anyone have a Mica electric shower with "overheat" light. What does overheat mean - is it broken for good ?

I don't see a 3rd brake-light on that Evo.....please tell me you didn't pull out your camera phone to snap that while "in control" on a car.........

*feeling particularly aggrieved due to some pathetically hopeless jackass pratting about on his phone in traffic nudging me up the chuff this morning and duly reported to Officer Dibble.

Sorry to hear about your nudge this morning :o

We were all stationary at the roundabout at the time. I assume the guy had his handbrake on ?

Not sure where in the country you are but if you have hard water the shower may be furred up ....if it is any older than two years chuck it away and buy another one it'll be cheaper in the longrun

If you take off the shower unit cover there should be a button somewhere you can press to "reset" the overheat function. Basically I think the showers been on too long and the heater "had enough". Used to get this all the time on my parent's shower unit...also a MICA funnily enough.:o

Would also say I'm not a qualified "shower" engineer so please don't take this as "the thing to do"...just passing on a means to get round problem until you can get a proper engineer to have a look at it. :o

On Overheat, from Mira:

If the water temperature reaches an unsafe level, the thermal switch assembly turns off the elements. As the water temperature falls the elements will be turned on. The switch will cycle on/off/on if the flow-rate is not increased, and the shower temperature reduced. The "OVERHEAT" neon will provide a visual indication of this condition.

Have had baths the last week cos the girlfriend is regrouting the bath to stop the shower coming through the kitchen ceiling! Grrrr.

Doesn't necessarily mean the Evo was full throttle though, does it? Or have I missed the point... :)

After seeing that Fiat kick the Evo's ar$e on Top Gear, I've lost all respect for them as a performance car ;)

Hope you didn't let her use that as an excuse for not doing your washing ironing and cooking? :) :)

There could be a number of theories on how or why

erm...the driver of the evo wasn't "running"

You could also try the Flow Valve on the Mira shower as it has a cold water filter in it and this can be a fault in hard water areas.

You can look on Mira's site which has sevice and maintenance sections to the individual showers in the manuals section I think.

It lists symptoms and possible faults and remedies, it also lists parts and part numbers if you order them direct.

Thanks for everyone's help on the Mira shower - well impressed with the response.

I will update when i take it apart !

This is the most random thread I've ever read

For showers, these people are brilliant http://www.showerdoc.co.uk/

Ours packed up, they talked me through what to test with a multimeter, ended up buying a new heat exchanger from them for it. They helped me with advice on how to fit it, total cost £60. A replacement shower would have been £225, if I had fitted that myself.

Still can't stop laughing at this one, Classic. Shower maintenance, races with rally cars, kids getting ready....... Great stuff. :D

Was this the chesterfield bypass Andy?

The sign posts at the round about seem familiar to the Bowshaw roundabout?

I believe you about he Evo thing, some up hills on that road if it is the one i think. similar torque? less weight in the fabia! could be a reason for it?

Torque - weight ratio's

Evo FQ340 305lb/ft /1400kg = 4.59 or .022

Andy's Fabia VRS 300lb/ft / 1315kg = 4.38 or 0.23

not sure what the above calculations mean but for sure on Torque ratio's you are pretty much even if not ahead a little. maybe someone can help me out.

the calculations above are calculated differently depending which way round the equation is. all i know is that the first number should be lower the better so the Fabia wins marginally and the second should be higher the better so again the fabia marginally wins.

take this with a pinch of salt but for going uphills like on the road you may have been on you would be very even.

Lets not look at BHP ratios though

Or what happens when you meet some corners ? ;)

That's just a peak torque figure though...

Rob.

the bypass is long and straight. good point though.

I think I may have a good point with the torque ratios! Good point about peak toque. Andy's torque curve is very smooth aswell so it may help. no large peaks.

I back off - and remind myself that i am

So how long is each car at their peak torque figure? My guessing is that the Evo will probably be running peak torque around 3-3.5k rpm and should have a nice flat curve (can you have a flat curve :rofl: ) all the way to the red line (7k rpm?). How does that compare with Andy's torque curve?

Mine peaks at 2500 and begins to back off. 5th gear @ 60 is fairly low down the rev range' date=' and i think i lifted at peak power :mischief:

Standard Evo graph @ wheels

I think we have a winner!

£23k is alot TO wave that infront of his face !!

I totally believe that a Fabia vRS with a remap is quicker than an FQ-340...in BIZARRO WORLD
