Car not starting after replacing alternator, turns over

Featured Replies

Hi

I replaced the regulator in my fabia mk 1 and whilst there did the aux belt and tensioner.

I was in a rush and didn't remove the battery, and when refitting the alternator the cable to the battery shorted on the engine.

The car now turns over but does not fire. I have checked all the fuses on the right hand side of the steering column and all ok. The battery clamps are tight and earth looks fine.

I have a cheap obd reader that connects and shows no error codes.

I suspect I may have damaged the fuel pump - is this likely?

What troubleshooting steps can I take next?

Thanks

Check all the strip fuses in the battery-box fuseholder. You may have blown the one that connects the alternator (leftmost one as you look into the engine bay).

There will be codes then, your cheap OBD reader obviously isn't good to enough to read them, you may have damaged the ECU itself.
