Nice early start again today and had another very productive day!

 

Called in another favour today with another Friend who is in the Motor Trade, When I was a Manager for 8 Years Bryan came from Gilders VW and was our MOT Tester/Senior Technician. He now owns his own business in the Motor Trade and kindly lent me his Tyre Machine and Wheel Balancer this morning.

 

Took my time fitting the Tyres to ensure the new wheels where mark free and once finished drove straight back home and cracked on with getting them fitted...

 

Today I have done...

 

: Fitted a set of Four Brand New Michelin Pilot Sport 4's in 225/40R18 92Y Extra Load Fitment

: Brand new set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Alloy Wheels in Gloss Black, 18" x 8J, ET45, 5 x 112 with 57.1MM Centre Bores

: Set of 20 Gloss Black Wheel Nut Covers

 

: Removed the 18" Talladega's

: Wheel Arch Deep-Clean & Detail

: Applied 2 x Coats of Collinites Wax onto the new Wheels

: Mini Exterior Detail

Small details, Black Adhesive Stick on Alloy Wheel Weights...

 

 

2 x Coats of my old favourite, This bottle is getting low so do I replace OR try something new?...

 

 

Wheel Arches Deep Cleaned, Rinsed, Pat dried and then Dressed using Aerospace 303...

 

 

End Result, New Suspension whorage shot...

 

 

 

Wheels back on, Car given a Mini-Detail. Am I happy with it? I don't say this very often about my own cars but I think it looks absolutely amazing. So happy with how the car is now looking and was well worth all the effort over the past Month...

 

 

 

 

Wheel Close ups, Yes I have an OCD! All Tyres fitted in same position on each Wheel, All Centre Caps lined up with Tyre Valves, Black Adhesive Stick on Wheel Balance Weights, Gloss Black Wheel Nut Covers, Tyres dressed using Megs Endurace...

Wheels look good, is there a slight stretch to the tyres or is it camera angle? A good reminder to get onto my TD's and give then a good clean, yours put mine to shame.. :)

Thanks! I think its the camera angle and the Sidewall Design, The Tyres have Kerbing protection and the Rubber goes thicker towards the bottom if that makes sense?

6/1/17...

 

Dropped the car off at Statller's in Sheffield this morning, Had the obligatory hour long chinwag with Steve and Craig which I enjoyed and a good look around the workshop....A couple off 500+BHP big Turbo TFSI's in there at the moment!

 

Decided to bugger off to York for a few hours on the Train....Freebie of course! Perks of the job as Train Driver.

 

Called back at 3PM to pick the car up, Was greeted by Steve who praised the condition of the car and said he gave it a once over while on the ramp and all good nothing at all to report. He also said I can tell its your car with how anal everything is condition wise LOL.

 

Fantastic Service as always and highly recommend these guys, They really know their stuff when it comes to these cars and I am more than happy leaving my own cars with them which speaks volumes.

 

Today the car has had...

 

: DSG Service, Oil Change inc Filter

: Haldex Service, Oil change inc Filter

: Brake Fluid Change

 

All Genuine parts used.

 

Ready to rock and roll for the trip to R-Tech in the morning!

R-Tech time!

 

Nice early start again and today was was my 4th visit to R-Tech and on 4 different cars and yet again over the moon with the results. Took the Golf R down today for an R-Tech Custom Stage 1 Map & R-Tech DSG Map.

 

I have had suspicions that my car was not totally standard from Day 1 just by the way it drove in comparison to my previous 6R and discussed this with Niki about 3 Weeks ago and after an initial Power Run today it was confirmed.

 

It seems the car already had an Unkown Remap of some description? The Gearbox still had the stock mapping so was hitting the DSG Torque limit of 320LB/FT and then limiting the Torque creating quite a dull driving experience as it was totally flat and in-between Gear Changes there was a slight delay also.

 

The unkown map was removed and a New Base File and DSG Map was uploaded, After various Power runs including some Road Driving and Data Logging the map was tweaked to minimise Surge and the end results where....

 

320BHP & 356LB/FT Of Torque!

 

Niki suspected the car might have had the Pre-Cat removed at some point as the car seemed to want to keep on making power but he capped it at 320BHP to be on the safe side.

 

Totally different car to drive, Just pulls and pulls and the Mid Range and Partial Throttle is much better. The DSG Map is also superb, So quick through the gears and sounds fantastic!

 

I was initially disappointed to find out the car was already mapped and even though figures wise the Peak BHP is similar to when the car first arrived the way the car drives is like night and day! Plus the added Bonus that the car now has a proper map installed and is totally safe.

Yes just one of those things. Coming from the 315BHP Edition 30 to the 6R I knew it would feel a bit dull in comparison but as whoever has mapped the 6R had not touched the Gearbox Map it was really restrictive. It was most certainly a Generic map with alterations to the Boost only, The ECU was pulling the Ignition Timing so it was never going to feel quick, Main thing is no harm done!

 

Totally different car to drive now, Niki's mapping methods uses the VVT on the Inlet Camshaft to aid Turbo Spool at low RPM but he keeps the Boost Pressure Linear and at a moderate 1.3-1.4Bar, Fuelling and Ignition Advance is also added and the result is a very smooth delivery but a deceptively fast car. The 350LB/FT in the Mid-range and 4WD makes it super flexible any weather, It actually surprised me on my way to work this morning on a damp-ish stretch of road and exiting a corner I buried my foot in 3rd Gear and it just got on with it. Additionally you do not have to feed the power using the Throttle, It is just a case of picking your point and putting your foot down, Really impressive! I would have had no chance in the Ediiton 30 to keep up!

Been a while since the last update, Had a mental Week on the car at the beginning of the Month but since then I have mainly been working and just enjoying everything that I have done the car.

 

Very happy with how the car now Looks, Drives, Performs and as a package is pretty hard to beat. Performance wise it is quick especially off the mark, Not quite as quick as my previous 315BHP ED30 once rolling but the way the 6R hooks up and just goes in any weather and with the combination of the DSG gearbox it has put a few smiles on my face coming home from work on late shifts last Week.

 

The Ride Height is pretty much perfect for me now the VWR Suspension has settled, Ride quality is massively improved over stock but body roll has been reduced. The Michelin PS4's are now bedded in and I have been unable to get a flicker from the TC light so they are certainly doing the trick, Even in damp/cold conditions.

 

Still too cold to get the Machine Polisher out at the moment but since the Sun was shining today I decided to give the car a bit of a detail and finally managed to get some decent pictures of it!

 

Spent around 6 Hours today, Hoovered the inside out and gave the car another going over with Poor Boys Black Hole and added another Layer of Collinites Wax for Winter Protection. Hope you all approve....

After a long hard think about things, I have decided that I am not going to be taking the car any further with regards to Tuning. After a sprited drive a few nights ago I can safely say that the car currently offers more performance than I could ever want.

 

I simply cannot justify the additional £2000+ to go to Stage 2+ and so I am just going to leave the car as it is.

 

I have ordered a VWR Panel Filter and will be removing the Revo Intake next Week and refitting the Stock Airbox as I only fitted the Intake due to initial plans on going further with the car.

 

I must be getting old and more sensible!

I can now see why you have so much spare ££££ to throw at your car's seeing as you drive for Cross Country!

Yes very happy with how the car is now looking, I am ditching the Revo Intake though in favour of a more OEM set-up as it is doing my head in.

 

I actually drive for Northern which is owned by Arriva Rail North, We also get reciprocal travel on Cross Country for Leasure use only. Oh and I am not on full money yet
