Need advice... ABS light problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to the forums. My Fabia has recently thrown up the ABS warning light - I've taken it to the garage this morning and they've said the error is relating to the O2 sensor heat bank and they would like to more tests on the lambada sensors and the exhaust. I'm just concerned because if the problem was relating to that sensor, would it not throw up the engine management light? I'm worried that perhaps it's an electrical issue?

I've had this car for just over a year (it's a 2004 reg). I've had my fair share of issues with it, but the only other time I've had a warning light on was when the sparkplugs and the engine coils needed replacing last year (engine misfires).

Cheers.

The ABS warning light by itself is most likely to be a wheel speed sensor, the garage is simply touting for work telling you the other fault codes they found as well. Simply and firmly instruct them to repair only the ABS fault for now, the rest can wait if the car's running ok.

The garage said the last car that came in just before mine - Ford Fiesta - read the same fault. I'm wondering if there's been a mix up...

Wino, I've looked at the battery, I can't seem to find the fuse compartment. I've took a few pictures of it, I can post if you like.

Sepulchrave - They didn't say any other fault codes where there :(. Just that one. The light did go off again on the drive there, and was there again when I set off back home.

Cheers.

There's a clip either side that separates the top from the fuse carrier beneath.

Look, the ABS module has its own warning light and its own brain, the faults they've listed CANNOT put the ABS warning light on.

Exactly what I thought this morning. Thanks for confirming. Going to have another look at the battery in a second, see if I can confirm/rule out what Wino has suggested. To me, it looks like they've found a code and just gone with it, rather than thinking about the fact it's an ABS warning...

Yes, they are idiots, find another garage.

Wino,

I've had a look and found the fuses. Nothing massively out of place, there is a line going across number 6. Not sure if this is just a scratch or something or it its a crack as the other post suggested. Shall I post a pic?

Cheers

Yep, stick a pic up.

Here it is, I've cropped it slightly so hopefully you can see it better. There is a small line through the middle. Not sure if its a scratch or a hairline crack. The others all have no marks on them.

Try lifting it slightly, if it opens up it's a crack and you must replace it anyway.

Update:

I've tried gently depressing the fuse and it appears there is some 'coming away' where the line/crack is. I'm wondering if that's why it sometimes goes off and the comes back, if the fuse is being jostled around whilst I'm driving.

Will look at replacing and see if that fixes the issue. Cheers for your help.

Don't use that garage again.
