Intermittent illuminated tacho needle

Featured Replies

Firstly, I must say I hate intermittent issues, this one is no exception!  My 59 plate FL Est has now developed an annoying intermittent flickering tacho needle. There is no speed, or combination of circumstances at which this issue is seen and being in the dashpod, is very visible!! I am going down the route of loose connection in the rear of the pod or possibly a slow lingering death of something in the rear of the pod. Has anyone come across this or similar issues ?

This could be fortuitous as have been considering updating to a maxidot dashpod, and can use this as ammunition in my argument with swmbo. I have seen posts ref this retrofit, and part numbers for petrol VRS versions, but does anyone have the part numbers for a sutable dashpod for said diesel FL est ?

Is it just the Tacho needle? or do all of them flicker

If it is just the tacho, the led will probably fail soon. (common problem)

An instrument clock remanufacturer maybe able to repair if it is a faulty clock assembly and not the car wiring connection to the unit i.e. assuming it is just the lighting on one needle that is flickering.

Cartronix have been mentioned in here before. I don't have any personal experience of them but from memory they were rated.

ive recommended cartronix before, and happy to do so again. its the factory led bulb failing , very common and the rest will probably go soon as well. with cartronix you will get all bulbs replaced with lifetime warranty. and theyre just down the road from you!

Gent's,

many thanks for that, I should have stated that it was just the one needle flickering. Now the decision, repair or replace? If I can get hold of a second hand cluster in the near future, and find someone close(ish) with vcds capabilities who would be able to code it, swmbo will just have to lump it!!

Once again, Many thanks to all the advice.

As Fareham is near where cartronixs is based that would be your best bet

Unless you were thinking of upgrading the cluster. Not sure if you have maxidot or not

Eddie-NL, I don't have maxidot, but wan't it, selfish, I know! The only issue is the one to go for, as there appear to be a plethora on the second hand market. There appear to be several colours and differing capabilities (or am I just seeing things?)
