2014 1.2 TSI 105bhp chain or belt

Featured Replies

I've read so many conflicting reports but is the engine in my 2014 Rapid Spaceback a chain or belt cam engine?

No problems with it but curious, read all about the VAG chain problems.

It's a chain.

I'll get the oil changed every year then, regardless of the long life schedule.

I highly recommend doing that. Not only for the chain, but particularly to keep the turbo in good shape.

If you buy a new Rapid now it's the later EA211 cam belt engine that's been used for a while in other VAG cars (the previous engine was the EA111 cam chain) . What year did they start fitting it to the Rapid?

How long before the 4 cylinder 1.2 TSI is replaced by the new VAG 1.0 3 cylinder TSI already available in the Octavia. Anyone had any experience of this new engine in a Golf/Polo/Octavia? I know it is not a true comparison but the 1.2 TSI in my Toledo is considerably smoother than the 0.9 3 cylinder Renault in the wife's Dacia.

1.2 belt drive 16v engine replaced chain drive 8v. It arrived with MY16 (so mid 2015).

New one rated at 110PS instead of 105PS (although the old one did dyno at 116PS on one test I viewed)

Model year switch is normally round Week 22 and the updated engines coincided with the Rapid facelift (more under the skin than visible, apart from the side indicator move).

Quite a few Octavia owners have the 1.0 TSi now, have a look at the posts.

Seems to have good feedback, only downside is a 3 cylinder thrumming noise.

As usual I'd expect it to take another year or so to get into the Rapid and Fabia.
