Mystery car damage

Featured Replies

After a few years of saving and weighing up many options I finally opted for a vRS 6 weeks ago. Bought a white 230 and was totally loving it. Went up north last weekend and on the way back stopped at two services. Got home in the dark, parked up and the car sat outside all week as I get train to work. Came to put something in the boot yesterday morning and was greeted by this:

Proper gutted to say the least. A roofing company are currently repairing the roof of our block of flats so there are plenty of vans and and the odd skip truck about, but it's also possible that it was damaged on the services on my trip back here and I didn't notice as it was dark. I'm just a bit confused though about what could have done this.... The bumper is fine so whatever it was would have to be pretty high up to clear it and hit the boot.... anyone any ideas what could have done it? Transit vans or similar size would all have hit the bumper, no? Very confused.... And sick as a parrot. :(

Nasty. Difficult to determine who or what caused it.

Get it fixed ASAP at a little body shop. Shouldn't be too ££££

Then you'll feel better.

Bummer !!...Check this link, thet are very good, and a lot cheaper than a bodyshop. Some barsteward put a dent in my 230 passenger door when she was 2 weeks old Grrrr..Sorted by this company, £90 :-)....https://www.chipsaway.co.uk/

soccer ball?

I feel your pain! Good luck getting it sorted!

Where are you in the UK? There are members all over who will help out / have a favourite bodyshop or smart repairer.

Thanks for both the condolences and the advice. I'm in Beckenham, north Kent. A local PDR guy quoted £105 but reckons he can only get it to 80% of what it was, meaning I'd still see some traces.... Going to take it to a body shop for a quote too when I can and hoping it won't be too steep as I won't have any serious money until Feb....

Very unlucky. Try another PDR franchise just to see if they're more optimistic. I watched the dent on the corner of my bonnet (where somebody had sat on it) being popped back and was amazed at the brilliant result. As long as the paint isn't broken and they can get behind the dent, it should come out.

If it needs painting, they can just take the no plate off and do that lower section of the hatch. So should be an easy repair.

Shame people not man enough to own up, assuming they were aware. Hope you get it sorted effectively without too much 'out of pocket'.

Looks about the right shape and size for the end of a ladder being carried by someone. Metal looks stretched, so usual dent removal won't work.

is the metalwork thinner than it used to be, making such damage much easier, even with a ladder?

This looks easy to fix and i would think it wont need painting eather, mainly as they can push most of it out from the back.

You have already got good advice on fixing it so nothing more to add there.

But in terms of what caused it, If its a roofing company nearby with scaffold poles than those poles can cause this damage where the boot portion is damaged but not the bumper!

There are hundreds of things that could have caused that damage.

Nothing sharp or small and hard could have caused that damage as there appears to be no damage/chipping to the paint, it looks like something larger and rounded hit the boot as there appears to a definite curve to the damage - that assumes the picture is an accurate reflection of the damage and not an optical illusion.
