Hi,

Have you tried getting a new quotation to see what the best rate is at the moment? Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like.

Hi Dan, i have and they couldnt find me a quote, plus i think i'll wait for a first ncb, i believe that 1yr ncb will open more doors for me as i been driving for more than 6months, would be sad to lose half a year just for a better insurance

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your new car.

Just a little thing.  & not to rain on your parade, just so you can check this out.

I see in the Fabia section you are asking about modernising a Pre FL car and making it look as a FL.

Maybe better not to considering how much your insurance is with a standard model.

You would have to declare the change of panels you are considering doing & any other modifications not only any that gave a power increase,

the Underwriter will likely say your mods would make the car more desirable to thieves, then as to any repairs if needed, the insurance would

be requiring the repairer to use the parts from the VIN of a 2009 model almost certainly.

Hi,

Ok no worries.

Yes please feel free to give us a try when your policy is due for renewal. 1 Years NCB would be a great help.

Dan.

I suspect living in Dagenham has a lot to do with it!

One of the problems with being a new driver i'm afraid. Significantly cheaper than the cost to insure my first car!

Problem you'll have with anything smallish and hatchbacky is that added to being a new driver = big risk. Funnily enough you may find you get much cheaper quotes on something less architipically 'new driver'. Think big diesel saloon. Try some compare the meerkat quotes.

Again ,at risk of being told "you're saying it again", I'll mention one tip to get price down, and it's playing by their rules.

Find some aged relative ,preferably with a bit of NCB and lots of years of clean licence, and add them to policy. They need never drive your car, but on your policy , they're worth a fair bit of cash off. I think my daughter found that up to about nine years it does lower the cost to them, and there's no risk to older driver. ( as long as the older one don't have a prang behind the wheel)

I feel for you mate,as soon as you have 1 years ncb should be a lott better.

My fist car was £480 that was for a 1.8 astra sri E reg. This was in 1994 changed days now. Have you got one of your parents on your policy as a named driver? This can some times make it cheaper.

I tried but it only dropped it by 150£

'VWD' is right I saved £750 by putting my dad (35 years driving experience) and brother (8 years experience) on my policy as 2nd drivers. I have 0 years NCB and I have only ever been insured as a 2nd driver and that was for 4 years.

I pay £898.00 fully comp on my mapped Mk 2 VRS oct.

Beat that  :p

I was paying 1500 in a saxo 1.1 as my first

But in my saxo 1.6 the next year went to 3000!

Anything above 1ltr engine capacity seems to attract higher premiums, it's bad enough with a 1ltr for young/new drivers.

My daughter got her's for £600+ as a new driver on a Kia Picanto, the difference here though she was 28 yrs old. Wind on nearly 3 years and she now drives a 1.9ltr diesel 7 seater mumbus. She's paying £800 now, she had a prang, 50/50 claim so that put the price up and the swap of cars of course.

She still has me on her insurance as a named driver, although she did a quote without me on and it didn't alter the price much. Kept me on as she likes me to drive sometimes, very rare though.

I thought that would work also on my lads first car last year, adding me (no claims and no points) as a named driver increased the premium by over a thousand pounds. I queried this with insurers and they said that adding parents etc generally increases premium now. Going back to the initial post, your postcode affects premiums greatly. Good luck

^^^ That sounds more like, we've changed the rules because folk are getting wise to doing it.

I even had an insurance company refuse to offer me a policy on the grounds of, we can't make any profit out of you.

True, my driving history, nil accidents, nil convictions etc etc and the fact the vehicle was of little value meant they just couldn't be bothered to take my money.
