Just before I make a decision on a new motor, does the Columbus system need a genuine Skoda SD card to update the maps like the Amundsen system?

On columbus you can use any sd card.

Is the USB port on the Columbus system USB 3 or USB 2?

Better off posting in the Octavia 2 forum as it's a completely different process to updating maps on MIB Octavia as fitted to Octavia 3.

Updating with an USB disk is also possible ...and faster

 

Updated with a USB SSD drive caddy, took about 3 hours.
