Oil Temperature warning?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Whenever I start my Skoda Yeti 1.6 Greenline, the red warning light appears on the Oil Temperature Gauge.

The is also a series of accompanying bing sounds ...

I have checked the oil levels in the engine and they seem absolutely fine.

Is the Yeti really complaining that the oil is too cold, when the engine is cold?

Is this just an symptom of the oil needing to change - it is due a 10,000km service?

What are you referring to as the "Oil Temperature Gauge", do you mean the Maxidot display?

If it is due an oil change service it will nag you about that on start-up.

Actually it is the coolant light that is flashing ...

Better check my coolant levels.

I'd suspect a spurious warning caused by deposit buildup on the sensor prongs in the expansion bottle.

Whether or not you can fix this easily depends on whether you have a visible or invisible prongs bottle.

Well as it turns out, the coolant levels was way below the sensor prones.

Looks like I have a leak somewhere - is this a common problem?

Is this it due its first service?

Is your can not due services at 15,000 km if on fixed servicing rather than 10,000km ?

When did you last check where the Coolant level was between MIN & MAX.

Where was the Coolant level after the last service or time at a workshop / PDI.?

Well as it turns out, the coolant levels was way below the sensor prones.

I never topped up the water on my previous Yeti in the 5 years/100k miles it did.

Be sure if you do then keep the ratio / strength correct, so H20 & the correct coolant, not just water.

If there is a leak then important to find the source, pipes, radiator, water pump or what ever.

Best if you know when the level was last correct.

#4 presumed that the coolant level was correct.

Since it's not, I'll just observe that I've never seen my coolant level more than about 2mm below "max" in 11 years.

Don't know if it applies to the Yeti but I had similar on my  Roomster and the dealer replaced the waterpump as he said it was a known problem.

At about 20,000 miles, my first Yeti used to leave a puddle on the drive overnight which I put down to condensation from the aircon. But it started getting worse and the coolant level started to drop. Dealer diagnosed a faulty seal on the water pump which they said was "not uncommon", so it was replaced under warranty and problem cured.

Yeti number 2 coolant level suddenly dropped significantly at about 500 miles. Dealer said it's quite common, probably an air lock, and topped up with the correct coolant mixture. No recurrance in the 6500 miles since, so he was presumably right.

Good luck!

Mine suddenly dropped about an inch at 2000 miles ish, topped it up with a mix of G13 and it's been OK since.
