power steering warning light

Featured Replies

I have som problemes with my 2007 1,9 tid (mk1). I have search the forum and the rest of internet but not find the exact errorcode.

The Power steering light comes on sporadicly when starting the car..  it goes out after 5 minutes but the power steering dont work, if I turn of and start the car the lamp often goes out but sometimes it stays on, one thing that can help is some of the times is to turning it of,  turning the steering wheel a bit and the start the car again.  I had thiw problem last winter more sporadicly than today and only when it was -5 to -10 celsius outside. Now the problem comes almost everyday even if it's +5..

I have read that a bad battery can cause this  (and I saw the low voltage battery error in the vagcom fault codes) but my battery is replaced two months ago to Tudor 74ah.

Hope some of you guys have some good ideas how to solve this problem! :-)

I have attached the errors from VagCom

a cigar socket volt meter (30 bob off fleabay)  is a good investment,  you can see what's happening even before you unlock the door and they are remarkably accurate considering the price,  also fast acting

cheshire cat, I have borrowed one from a friend today, and will put in in tonight what voltage should I expect?

Do you know at what level the car thinks the voltage is to low?

Engine off you should see about 12v.

yes also 14+ charging and you can watch and learn the foibles of the heater plug control unit too :nerd:

If it isn't the battery then It's caused by condensation inside the pump motor housing running onto the circuit board, there will be some corrosion, the only cure is to fit another pump that works ok.

Update..

Have tried the volt meter mow, the car has been parked for 24-36 hours, and it showed 12.6

Went for a ride for 10 minutes, voltmeter showed 13,9-14,1 when engine was idle, up to 14,4 when I was driving.

Had a stop for two minutes, volmeter showed 13,6 after I turned the engine off, when I got back to the car after two minutes and started it, the warningt light came on,

and voltmeter showed 13,9-14,1..

So I guess a new pump is a good idea.. or?

Yes, new pump.

My Fabia had a steering sensor on it as my steering warning light flickered then steering went

Scary stuff

More so for you than for me when my Octy threw the aux drive belt I imagine, since I've probably got more upper body and arm strength to turn suddenly unassisted steering with.

Yes I am a weak woman but it was scary as I was on the M60 just going over a bridge

Don't believe a word, Ken's an unreconstructed seven-stone weakling hiding behind his firewall pretending to be a ripped white knight on his rippling charger (read: Skoda Fabia)  :D
