Couple quick questions if anyone is willing to help me out

Featured Replies

First off, this is my first post here, and although I do not own a Skoda, I noticed a striking similarity between the body of the MkIII Octavia and my B6 Audi A4 Avant. Namely the tail lights, which is the focus of this thread.

I imagine I'd have to do a bit of metal work, but am entertaining the idea of fitting Octavia III combi tails w/leds to my Avant.

Would anyone be willing to take some measurements for me so I can get an idea of how different the openings are? I am mainly looking for overall length around the top and bottom of the lens, between the trunk hatch and the rounded "point" toward the front of the car.

I am always an OEM fan and am simply looking for an updated option that doesn't look like pure garbage (here's looking at you ebay specials).

Anyone willing to break out a tape and shoot a couple photos for me? I understand that I probably can't return the favor but would be incredibly appreciative of any help I receive.

That'll be some serious body work!

Some of the aftermarket LED rear clusters for the B6 A4 look OK...

They look quite similar, if only the difference between them being the Octavia lamp stretches further forward than the B6 lamp.

If all else fails I can always see if a breaker would ship me the metal portion around the lens to graft into my car ????

Possibly also square off the hatch to remove the angle at the top of the lens.

Can I ask the OP a question? - Why?

Seconded. I am a bit baffled as to why you'd want to go to the effort and expense of making this change?

Can't see how you'll match the tailgate profile to the Octavia lights - the Octavia is nearly vertical above the number plate recess, the A4 is quite rounded. The top of the lights will protrude badly.

Top marks for originality, I'm all for personalisation and unique mods, but can't see this actually working out, even with shed loads of bodywork.

Surely better to fit aftermarket or later model Audi lights that are at least the same size.

I fitted aftermarket LED lights toy Audi B7 Avant, worked well & looked good & much easier than trying to make Octavia lights fit - which IMHO will end up looking like something created by Frankenstein.

Individual yes, good looking no.

In my opinion every aftermarket option I have seen for the B6 looks horrible. While on vacation in Germany I noticed that the Octavia tail lights look very similar in shape and have a nicely updated look to them that can only be achieved by OEM.

I'm simply asking for measurements so I can see if there is any possibility of fitting them to my car. Custom bodywork isn't a problem, I'll be doing custom widebody fenders in steel at about the same time.

Some asked why I'd swap in a big turbo 2.7t in such a cheap car....

Even if you don't get the lights, I'm sure we'd all be interested to see the body customisation.

I'll be late summer but I'll be sure to drop back in a share what's going on.
