Noisy Brakes

Front brakes on my Fabia VRs have become noisy sounds like worn pads. Dealer advises plenty of wear left. No brake wear warning light.11000 miles on clock, any ideas.

Could be glazed pads. Have you been giving them excessive or under use? If under use, does the problem go away if you brake heavily from highish speed a couple of times?

Chris

I could be having the same problem as yourself, ive put a post up myself, My dealer "cleaned up" my brakes (didnt look like they had done jack **** to me) but did they say anything else other than lots of wear left??

Seems like a common fault.Probably time to fit new pads (not skoda).

Sometimes it can be traced to the "rusty crust" around the rear disks, mine had the same noise, back end up, wheels off, disk edges cleaned up with stiff wire brush, noise gone

My Mum has had noisy rear brakes (kind of grinding noise) since her car was new.

She's taken it to the dealers and they couldn't find anything wrong.

It's not ever so loud, but it's definately noticeable.

Thats 100% what mine is like. but a car of 3months old should not by any standards have grinding brakes. :(

Ive tryed everything. comeing from 70 to a dead stop no noise. reverseing on to the drive press brakes grinding like hell. in slow cueing traffic grinding like hell.

I even get ABS kicking in when going down a hill, slowing down slowly this is (when on a dry sunny day) i get a beep when holding on the brakes too when this happens. Hope this is making sence.

Hi

If you get the abs triggering at low braking forces, I would check for binding on.

A lip forms on the edge of the disc. This rubs on the edge of the pad rather than the face causing a noise.

Happens more these days as pads are harder due to non asbestos products used and they wear the discs out quicker.

If not a 'fault' is a feature.

mine only do this when cold, ie; stops after a few uses. I have 3k left on the pads apperently.

Its a common Volswagen brake axle fault, apparently according to my dealer, there is mod to do to rear brakes but didnt have the parts when my motor was in.

They put a set of pads in the rear for free, 2K later still the same will have to go in again with a list,

Does anybody have to slide their seatbelts back, bad returning?

Finaly my dealer has said theres a problem and parts are on order. Something to do with the calipers, handbrake and rear axle. Hoping that this does solve the problem. Oh and my dealer has also said that its a common problem, Well who ever they called for more advice.

I`ve had my vrs in 3 times in the last 12months with VERY noisy rear brakes. Told by dealer first couple of times that the pads were "glazed" and then 3rd time that rear calipers had seized. They free`d off the calipers but noise returned after a few weeks. I can stop from any speed and it doesn`t cure the noise from the back end. It`s even noticable with the stereo on quite loud. To me this ain`t a "feature" of a fully working braking system. Rear discs have horizontal marks on em, not clean like the fronts too.

When i get these parts fitted ill find out as much as i can, to see what they have done. The car works fine its just a pain in the **** noise. mine said glazed and even asked me if i had been on a trackday. All i can say is at least they have found a the problem and that this hopfully will bring an end to this pain in the ****.

My vrs has always made a sort of dinosaur groan from the rear brakes but this only happens when i am reversing very slowly. No sound from them at any other time. When it first happened to it to the dealer (this was at 200 miles)and they inspected it for me but found nothing wrong. The brakes work well and have done for the whole of my VRSs 21000 miles. Have put it down to just a little quirk of this particular car.

Weve got the same problem on our 18month Vrs.

Back brakes grinding.

Been in twice now and dealer has fitted "balance weights" to the back calipers.

Apparently this is a mod that has been fitted to Polos for about two years.

Dealer says it stops squeal from the rear brakes.

Grinding noise still there and Im sure its due to build up of rusty rim round the outside of the discs as has been said before.

Ill have the wheels off at the weekend and get the grinder onto the discs and clean them up.

Ive had this problem on other cars and found that sometimes going round the edge of the disc and GENTLY tapping with a small hammer removes the rim.

  • 1 month later...

Dealer has now fitted the parts that skoda uk said to fit. Performace seems to be up but now a few weeks later the noise is just as bad, if not worse and the discs look crap all pitty something isnt right at all. Anyone any ideas??? Oh and the parts that they replace/fitted were called "rear hand brake caliper mounts"

The problem is the rear brakes arent working hard enough to self clean.

Its not a fault, they arent being used enough.

That's something I hear on my car from time to time. Maybe because I don't drive too fast or brake that much as a consequence and the rears have a little coating of surface rust ?

The dealer has just backed down and they agree that the discs on my car look crap have a bigger lip than normal and sound worse than other fabia vrs they have had in with this problem. They are going to change the disc's and pads at the rear.

But at the same time they dont think that this will solve the problem, something to do with it being a 'common fault/problem'.

They also did mentioned that the rear brakes do 30% of the brakeing and the front do 70% but at the same time they said that the octy is the same and that they dont have the problem. I think this could rule out that the brakes are noise because they arent used enough.

In my eyes though if they change everything they can And do there best in a helpful manner (which they have been doing) i shall still hate the damm noise but be happy enough with the fact that they have done all they can, will just have to keep asking every month or so to see if something has come out to fix it.
