Accident to my car last night

Featured Replies

Went to the Seat Diner meeting last night and now really regret going.

Coming back, the wife and I came up the M20, onto the M25 entry slip that takes you over the M20 and M25 and then back onto the M25 towards the Dartford tunnels.

Doing 70mph in lane one, when a set of lights behind start catching up at such a speed we think we a in reverse, it turns out to be Ford Mondeo, and as he gets level with our car, suddenly swings to the left straight into us, hitting my front offside wing a wheel, it then veers off to the right, does a complete 360 turn, hits the offside barrier and spins back into lane one, both airbags deployed on the Mondeo and a complete write off with debris everywhere, the offside barrier that he has hit, then falls onto the M20 below and four other cars are involved below us.

Police arrive fourty (40) mins after the call, and the Mondeo driver states "I was doing 75, and as I overtook the other car, a gust of wind caught me and blew me into the car, and I lost control".

Lucky for us neither of us were injured, his passenger went to hospital.

Now for the aggro of sorting out the insurance, car is still drivable, his is a total write off.

Have to really commend the two officers that arrived from Dover to deal with the accident, could not have asked for better treatment from them.

Sorry to hear that Gerry.

Glad you and the boss are ok, I only hope the guy in the Mondy was insured.

im sure the phorensics / accident investigfation will prove he was doing more than 75.. glad youre ok.

It happens mate :( but very glad to know the both of you are OK....car can be repaired....still a shock when it happens though

First and foremost I'm glad to hear both you and the wife are OK.

Is the Mongdeo driver trying to say you were at fault. Difficult to tell from your post.

I get the impression the mondeo driver is trying to blame an act of god.

Hopefully he won't be believed.

Indeed as acts of god arent covered by insurance.

But if it was windy then his speed should have been adjusted to suit, so he wasnt driving with care and attention.

Glad you and the missus are ok though Gerry.

Glad to here you and swmbo are ok, accidents are sh.ite but they do happen :(

Hope everything gets sorted swiftly :)

Thanks for all the comments, really appreciated.

Police at the scene told me that he had admitted liability by stating that he had got blown across the carriageway into me, and that no blame in anyway was attached to me, and that the comments were to be entered in their bookwork.

I even got to blow the breath machine and that came up 000, so no probs there.

The good thing is that Sandra and I were not injured and at the end of the day it is a lump of metal with four wheels and can be mended, human life cannot.

The idiots in the Mondeo were very very lucky, for if the barrier had given way completly then they would have gone right over and down onto the M20.

As for the damage to his car, never in a month of Sunday's could it have sustained a total write off at the speed quoted, every panel was gone, the exhaust was off, all four wheels were either broken off or buckled beyond use, the suspension was gone at every corner, even the roof had kinked across the centre, from front to back.

Now to sort out the insurance, as we are full comp with protected NCB, so new wing, wheel and get the steering geometry checked.

PS:- Enjoyed the meal at the diner though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And don't forget to get those "stone chips that happened at the same time" done as well  may as well make the most of it

Dont mention that, we got blasted twice by a bloody gritter as we sat at the accident, could'nt even get out the way, just had to sit there and cringe at the noise of being shotblasted.

ouch! glad you and swmbo are ok.

Glad you are both ok. I wasn't so lucky with my accident. I came round a corner on a country road that i must have drove round a thousand times. But just my luck, Friday 13th, a lorry had been across, dropped loads of little bolders and just decided to leave them there. I came round the corner, doing 30 - 35, (in a 40 liit it should be notied) and as you can guess, lost the back end.

Clipped a tree and on my roof i went. Luckily I was the only one in the car, and my pregnant wife was at the hospital. Got out with cuts and bruises, but was ok.

To be fair to my insurance company, they have sorted this out very quick, and the cheque is in the post. But lo and behold, guess who has No no-claims. Now 21, with No no-claims, and have just bought an Octavia L&K 1.9Tdi in Black Magic. and come August got to insure it. But like everyone has said, IT happens.

Glad your ok though!!!

Chris

Oh no sorry to hear about that mate - glad you + SWMBO are OK. Insurance companies are a pain in the bum and i hope you are back on the road before long!

Blimey Gerry.

Best you cycle down to me and have a go in an Impossible 4x4. You'll need to keep your hand in cause Insurance "peeps" can be slow at times.

That must have been frightening for you both. But glad to hear you are both OK and not in need of repair.

Sorry to hear that buddy, glad you and the boss are ok.

I'm not back to work until Wednesday night give me a call so i can come over and have a butchers!!!!!

jesus dude - (beretta) - just got your pm - hope everyones ok - the wind was a bit evil blowing my car about but all you do is keep your speed down - especially when it was a little frosty !!!

fingers crossed you get it sorted out and back on the road...

glad you enjoyed the meet

Gerry, as everyone else has said, glad you're both OK! What a nightmare. There are so many appalling drivers around at the mo', and it just seems to be getting worse.

glad you're ok

is it a bit morbid to ask if ur gonna post some pics??

adam

The recorded wind strength at Heathrow Airport last night is here. Hardly the sort of wind strength to affect pedestrians let alone cars. :(

Glad to hear you are both ok .Steve and I couldnt make the Ashford meet as both working.

The police got there from Dover quite quickly was it the octy??

Did that mean that us locals could have been out testing remaps etc as no traffic cover in Dover lol ;)

Kathy

Gutted for you Gerry, but alas it will be fixed.

As has been said, you and the Mrs are fine, thats the main thing.

Still - really scary stuff.

What happened to the cars below?

Glad you guys were ok - based on the damage described the police won't believe the other driver anyway, hope he was insured though as it was pretty obviously his fault.

Hope you guys weren't too badly shocked by it all :(

Sorry to hear that buddy' date='glad you and the boss are ok.

Alex, you morbid git..................................................LOL will ring on Monday.

Re the cars below, they all or were nearly all involved in hitting the barrier/fencing that the Mondeo had hit and pushed over onto the carriageway below. We were on the elevated section, and the debris fell onto the M20 below.

Re the area car sent to the scene, not an Octy, but a Volvo, it appears that there was a really bad accident on the A2 at the same time and all local cars were involved in that incident.

Only sorry that we did not have a camera with us at the time, you would not believe the damage to the Mondeo (Write Off), and the minimal damage to mine in comparison.

EDIT:- Just got off the phone to my insurers, took all details, they confirmed that the other car is insured and that as it is "NOT" my fault it will be a "No Fault Claim", so not my fault and no excess to pay, they will arrange for approved repairer to contact me today and they will also arrange for a free courtesy car to be delivered today to my home, for as long as it takes to get my car back on the road.

All genuine manufacturer parts to be used and five year warranty on the repair and paint.

So, fingers crossed.
