Read out service interval settings

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm trying to read out the current setting for the Service interval setting.

First some background information:

My car is a Skoda Octavia II (2007), 1.9 TDI with DSG.

According to my service book, my service interval are set to QG1, which should be equal to Variable serviceinterval. The reason to why I would like to read out these settings, are to make sure that my work-shop are re-setting this correctly after next service. I have been performing a Long Life Service every year since I bought it, running approximately 12-15k between intervals. My trip back and forth to work are approximately 25km each way, taking about 30 minutes. Also, I have a motor heater installed, so I normally starts with a pre-heated engine in the winter. With that in mind, I would assume that the "Long Life" should last closer to 2 years or 30k.

I have purchased dongle and software from obdeleven in order to be able to read out diagnostics from my car.

According to the Rosstech site (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Skoda_Octavia_(1Z)_Instrument_Cluster), I should check the following channels in the instrument cluster (Address 17):

Channel 044: Maximum Time to Service
  • Increments: 1 = 1 day(s)
  • 365 = fixed Service Intervals (w/o Longlife)
  • 730 = flexible Service Intervals (with Longlife)

Channel 045: Oil Quality
  • 1 = fixed Service Intervals (w/o Longlife)
  • 2 = flexible Service Intervals (with Longlife)

Channel 049: Minimum Time to Service
  • Increments: 1 = 1 day(s)
  • 365 = fixed Service Intervals (w/o Longlife)
  • 730 = flexible Service Intervals (with Longlife)

It also list the security code in order to be able to access adaption to be 13861.

However, connecting to the OBDEleven, I do not have channel 44 nor channel 49. Also, security code 13861 is not working, it gives me an error saying it is wrong code.

My complete readout give me the following:

Channel -> Value

0 -> 0

2 - > 1

3 -> 100

4 -> 2

9 -> 13779

15 -> 17

16 -> 13

25 -> 0

30 -> 128

35 -> 0

39 -> 0

40 -> 189

41 -> 496

45 -> 1

47 -> 411

48 -> 112

50 -> 150

51 -> 372

I suspect that the missing channels might be due to the fact that I do not have the correct security code? My software version on the Dash Board (Kombiinstrument VD1) are 1612.

Any suggestions how to proceed? Do I have the data needed in order to evaluate the service settings, or do anyone have a suggestion for the security code (if needed)?

If I was to make a wild guess, I would say that channel 45 indicates that the oil is set to none longlife type.

Also, I would guess that channel 51 might be max days to service, being set to 12*31 = 372 days (1 year), and channel 50 is saying max 15k between service.

I would say that looks like you are on fixed interval. When you say it is coming up for service between 12k and 15k KMs, are you hitting the 1 year / 372 day threshold?  I would say so...

A service sticker showing it is eligible for QG1 doesn't mean it has been set up that way on either leaving the dealer or later in life by a change of coding or regime.

TheClient,

that is my thought as well. However, my dealer still bill me for "Extended life" engine oil, and performs a full inspection service each time.

When I ask why it is so often, they reply back that it is due to the fact that the car logs a lot of parameters, such as cold starts, driving style and so on. Thus they mean that they need to do the full service, and going by with the extended life oil.

I would like to prove for them that the car actually are set to fixed service (even if I should not have the responsibility to do so).

I would say that it hits either the 1 year or the 15k Km mark.

Hi I may be wrong but I think fixed service is around 9500 km or 1 year, with variable being 18000 km maximum or two years so 15000 km is not far away from this figure.

I do not have my Service Schedule in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that it should be 30k Km or 2 years, whichever that comes first.

According to this post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/320854-octavia-mk2-engines-dpfs-cambelts-oils-brakes-and-servicing-info/ , it should be up to 50k Km:

Servicing Intervals

Engine Oil Change:
Petrol
Long Life / Variable - Up to every 30,000 Km (18,641 Miles) or 2 years maximum
Time & Distance - Every 15,000 Km (9,320 Miles) or 1 year
Diesel
Long Life / Variable - Up to every 50,000 Km (31,068 Miles) or 2 years maximum
Time & Distance - Every 15,000 Km (9,320 Miles) or 1 year

Air Filter:
Replace every 90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles or 6 years

Cabin / Pollen Filter:
Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles or 2 years

Brake fluid change intervals:
Up to MY2010 - Every 2 years
From MY2011 - Initial change at 3 years, then every 2 years

Fuel Filter:
Diesel - Replace every 90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles
Petrol - Skoda state no interval / Lifetime fit, however would advise changing every 4 years (the fuel filter isn't expensive)

Spark Plugs:
1.8TSI and 2.0 TSI/TFSI (BZB, CDAA,BWA,CCZA) - Replace every 90,000 Km / 55,923 Miles or 6 years
All other Petrol Engines - Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles or 4 years

Haldex 4x4 Oil Change intervals:
Up to MY2009 - Every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles
From MY2010 - Every 3 years

DSG (6 Speed) Oil Change interval:
Replace every 60,000 Km / 37,282 Miles

That is all true what the dealer says. But channel 45 saying oil quality at fixed interval I assume means oil quality monitoring is off.

You could get someone to use VCDS to check set up items or ask the dealer to change all the setup items to variable settings to make sure because you are paying for it and you don't believe it is set up correctly.

But to be honest, I'm not a fan of variable servicing and I would stick to fixed. Some dealers choose to use Long Life oil even on fixed interval.  You would want some reduction in service cost for every second service though. Here in the uk, on fixed service, every other service is a full inspection, airfilter, cabin filter, plugs, code read etc. and the others are minor, basically an oil and filter and a quick look over. Usually about £100 difference here.

You are correct I got my miles and kms mixed up.
