DLR stopped working

Featured Replies

Hey all

It maybe just me being a bit dim... When I bought the car last year the front fogs were always illuminated as I had DLR selected in the MFD

So for some reason now they are not on but do still illuminate when steering left and right at slow speeds. (cornering fog lights??)..

I've reset the MFD setting and re selected the option but still it's the same.

There are arguments for and against DLRs being on but I am more interested to find out why they stopped working.

Auto lights are on.. If I turn on manual mode still nothing...

Just a bit weird...

Mine is a 12 plate 140CR in elegance trim with almost every option ticked...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Ben

Obviously Front Fogs on where a fault and illegal or at least not in line with the Highway Code.

So what you want is not what you had before but DRL's to work.

Hiya... Sorry I mustn't have explained this properly.. So the DRL are where the fogs are but the use a separate lower power bulb so not to dazzle on coming drivers etc etc...(I think.!!)

As I said I am not bothered that they are not working just curious more than anything :)

Car has just been on a OBD and found no light faults

Many thanks

But DRL's are supposed to be bright because they are to alert other road and pavement users in Daylight / Sunlight that a vehicle is moving towards them.

Pointless if not bright in sunlight,

and damn annoying if on when Headlights are what is needed.

Like you have noticed the DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) are housed in the same cluster as the fog lights.

They only come on when all other lights are off (side lights and dipped headlights), as soon as these are either turned on manually (or automatically when in Auto) they turn off.

If you are sure that they are enabled in the MFD, there is no fault code (when using VCDS, not a generic code reader) or 'blown bulb' warning on the dash then it sounds very strange.

The DRL's are fused so it might be worth checking the fuse box on the end of the dash, although I'd expect a blown fuse to trigger a fault code.

The cornering fog lights only operate when dipped headlights are turned on, at speeds under 40kph and when the steering wheel is turned or the indicators are turned on (both cornering fogs illuminate when reverse gear is selected). You should never see the fog light bulb illuminated at the same time as the DRL bulb.

perhaps some previous owner fitted LED bulbs which have failed and used vagcom /vcds to disable bulb failure warnings?
