Driver's door window has dropped (Mk II Octy)

Featured Replies

Driver's door (power) window dropped into the door when being lowered. It had been making some suspect "twanging" noises when being raised and lowered for a few days previously.

What is likely to have failed? Clips (plastic, metal)? Cables?

Can the window be manually pushed up and temporarily gaffer taped in place if I remove the door card (from photos and workshop manuals it appears not, as there is no "window" in the inner door skin)?

Workshop manual pages I have found online suggests that removal of the door assembly carrier (=inner door skin?) requires boring out of rivet heads. Is this correct?

Unfortunately, the same manual doesn't seem to show how the lifting mechanism actually operates (I presume by cables?) or what the window sits on.

How careful do I have to have be with side impact airbag pressure sensors in the door?

In short, is this a DIY job (for an average bloke with basic tools) or does it need to go to a dealer, independent or specialist?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I haven't had a window problem in my Octavia yet but I have had to fix both front windows in my mother's 07 superb using the superb version of this kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/00-SKODA-OCTAVIA-WINDOW-REGULATOR-REPAIR-KIT-FRONT-RIGHT-UK-DRIVER-SIDE-/221626397970  as the wire rope had rusted through (Others are available. I have no experience of this seller, I am only using link as an example)

I found it was a fairly self explanatory job and I don't have too much experience of working with cars. Don't complain to me if you try to do it and break something though!!!

I hope you managed to get you problem fixed somehow anyway.
