Hard to explain. I closed the boot and heard a crunch sound. The parcel shelf is held by the string to hold it up and by little plastic pegs which are moulded to the rear panel in the boot. One of these pegs have snapped off. Leaving a hole and no hope of buying a single piece as it is an extension of the actual panel. Any ideas how to fix this. I want to sell and the parcel shelf is only held on one side so useless at the moment.

Take the other one off and make it a manual lifting panel, or go to a scrappers and get one from a car being broken.

Oh bother, sounds like the same idea as on my wife's previous Polo, though I was lucky and was told about this as soon as it happened and the snapped off part was still in the cord loop!

 

So, I drilled a suitable sized hole in it with a slightly larger counter bore and drilled a smaller hole into the hatch trim panel - I probably drilled a small hole all the way through initailly so that things would line up perfectly. Using a suitable cap headed bolt I fixed it back on, while also using a suitable glue.  That repair lasted until we traded that car in about 6 years later - and that repair was almost invisible!

 

So that is what you could do, as you have lost the broken off part just improvise - but do use a small bolt and glue, one without the other will probably not last long enough!
