ASV 110bhp turbo

Featured Replies

Got a 53 reg octavia asv 110bhp going into limp mode change all solenoid valves and better silicon pipes etc  but still does it when hits about 3k revs ..if we have to take turbo off to clean ...is there any cheap upgrade alternative to fit ie 130 or similar turbos etc that are direct fit ? Any advice would be great

Cheers

Nothing available then?

Search 'Mr Muscle' on here first to try cleaning without removing.

Problem with the ASV is the turbo is part of the manifold casting, so unless you go down the "Darkside" route and get a new tubular manifold, swapping turbos is limited, I have the same problem with my ASV, I've got the can of Mr Muscle to clean the variable vanes, and you don't need to remove the manifold/turbo to do it, just remove the EGR pipe from the manifold and put some silicon tubing into the hot section and fill with Mr Muscle and keep moving the actuator rod every few minutes to get it freely moving.

Ironically I was at the old Mr M again yesterday in my 2001 TDi90. As Nige says above can go in on the hot side I am lazy so just undid the two nuts on tubo end of the EGR flexi pipe and lifted it up a bit to get some hose in. First time I ever did it, I took EGR valve etc off too so I could clean it out at same time. Best thing to try is to push down the turbo actuator rod as a test to see if it's smooth and returns smoothly, if it's very stiff / creaks / squeaks when pushed in then this is worth a try as they are grotty. When putting hose in make sure you bend end of it to help it go right down into the hot side and inject the stuff until it comes back up out, sit for a bit and then work that rod the more the better and you should feel it get nice and smooth, keep repeating it over a good 2 hours (to save coming back in a few months) I inject a bit more every so often personally. Normal run of the mill Mr Muscle seems to be the best have tried other brands and most have an inset pin rather than a protruding one, I used some spare 3mm silicone line from replacing all other lines on the car a few months back and oushed it on with 2mm to spare and zip tied it in place so no leaking. Cover up all places it might go inc where your holding the can in case it leaks when you try to put it in as it's nasty stuff especially to alloy. When I have finished and put it back together I use a garden hose and make sure I purge the area so none eating through something important.

Thanks people .....

Bit of a pain to take off then , seeing as its carbon build up /muck etc thought I would look into options so contacted Carbon Clean Lancashire - Cumbria yesterday , they confirmed they could do it today at my home address , so chap came , 40mins later all done.. Before the car was lumpy/sluggish /idle a bit pants/smokey /bad on startup etc and the above limp mode ....

After it was done took it for a spirited drive like it was stolen type thing ! did the test my pal from ccctech did from 1500 rpm in third and floored it all the way nearly to red line , did thisn four times at least and it pulls like a train now ( not mapped yet ) was very very impressed , so much so I had the guts to overtake a rather slow BMW on the way UP the hill ! :)

so fingers crossed that this has done the job ! but would highly recommend ! ( unlike the terraclean which I did not rate on our other car passat)

Hmm , done it twice since but at random times turbo feels free and car is much stronger and drives/pulls ace since the carbon clean , but cant understand why it still does limp mode? ........think it may need to come off to do it properly cleaned?......if its coming off shall i just replace the turbo? or will clean keep it going for another 10 year ?

If you pull it off, the variable vanes are available to replace around £60
