Wheel centre caps corroding - warranty?

Featured Replies

I noticed that all four of the centre caps for my alloy wheels are starting to corrode - the usual white bubbling.
It's just about still under warranty so I've asked the dealer to replace them it's in for a service but not had a reply yet.
Has anyone else had them done?

Thinking about it, is there anything else I should check before it goes in?

mine are the same after 7 months . I will be interested to see how you get on.

It will depend on the dealer and how persuasive you are

Have a look on the forecourt to see the state of similar aged cars before you go in.

If they look better than yours I think you'll have a better case.

If they are similar or worse be prepared for the "they all do that sir".

Which doesn't make it right, but you might have a better answer prepared!

Hi, I have had my centre caps replaced twice under warranty without difficulty!  The only thing is that they still corrode again so not sure what to do about that.

Yes it’s a warranty item, had IIRC 3 sets changed so far on various cars.

The new ones will still corrode, but at least the car will look better for a bit longer.

As for other stuff, get Škoda to MOT the car a month before the car is 3 years old as it may pick up stuff which is covered.

Does anyone know how much are the centre caps out of warranty? I did raise mine with my local dealer, but it isn't covered by the approved used warranty and mine is over 3 years old now. They aren't terrible so will leave them longer if I have to pay to replace.

Change the car? :D

I'm not going to be too arsey if they say no, but equally I'm quite happy to argue the case if I think it's justified. It won't hurt that they think I might be in the market for a Kodiaq.

Its the lacquered printed foil, its just not durable enough to water damage and especially road salt.

Happens on almost all VAG group cars, seems crazy the cant design something more durable.

A black plastic background with a stuck on plastic chrome badge would last longer.

Then they have the cheek to charge £7 each for them if they wont replace under warranty.

Although you can get 4 Chinese copies on ebay for about £9.

Maybe it's cheaper for them just to replace a few badges under warranty than to redesign, test and produce a whole new badge.

Mine had already showed damage at 12 months so at the 2 year point, I asked for them to be checked and replacement was refused by Hortons service desk on the grounds that it was the effect of detergent. With the exception of 2 washes in the Hortons wash bay, i.e the annual service, I always wash by hand and use detergent sparingly and rinse off immediately. In my opinion it is simply cheap material on the centre caps. My MkII VRS centre caps had the same damage until I bought a set of smart custom plastic replacement centres via a Pastyboy group buy.
