Hi Guys

Traded in my VW Up and got this little beauty (1.2 TSi Colour Edition)

Did the deal during the Big Event that ran between the 4th and 23rd of January.

I got £500 free fuel.

On asking which petrol station we had to use, we were told the £500 is actually on a pre-paid debit card and can be spent in any shop! bonus!

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know the car and probably be asking loads of questions so bear with.

Cheers

Haha I had no idea what you meant at first!

Just a shame no vRS ,that would be a great look and with some go if fitted with 1.8 .Those were the days. I see that Citroën have a DS3 to compete with Fiesta ST. So why not Skoda, VW have  castrated the enthusiasm out of Skoda.

The engines are the same in both 90 and 110bhp guise, just software difference. With a cheeky remap these engines are making 145bhp. Enough to raise a smile (not that I'd condone remapping a car whilst under warranty)

Lookswise it's getting plenty of compliments from work mates. I think it would look really sporty if lowered a bit more... and I won't being doing that either. The Monte Carlo editions look nice with the diffusers, but yes I agree a VRS would be nice to see (but then that would detract from the Polo GTi sales so no chance)

This from bickerton

Good guys up there only have a few complaints

1) no umbrella in underseat holder only realised last week it should have had one so no chance of getting one now

2)luckily I pressed the nav button before I left the car park as they hadn't put the SD card in

Anybody know the part number for the umbrella so I can order one

My umbrella was in the glove box, left hand side (its really deep the glovebox)

Check there... although I guess you'd have found it by now

I think the Fabia looks great in that green, well chosen.

Well, first things ordered for the car... Hardwire kit for my dash cam and a spare wheel.

Wasn't paying the ridiculous price from the dealer, so bought a 2nd hand Polo Steel wheel off eBay.

Made sure it was all the correct stud pattern/ET/Width etc and ran it through Willtheyfit.com as well to make sure.

Even comes with the Jack Kit, and the tyre is near enough brand new.

Delivered its cost £75 which I don't think is too bad.

Cant be doing with the slime... ridiculous cost cutting measure, and pretty much useless if its the sidewall that goes.

Will be doing the camera hardwire at the weekend and the spare should be here Monday.

Think the next thing will be a phone holder, possibly the Belkin one.

Loving the Apple CarPlay BTW, very good indeed.

Wondering whether to risk trying my Carista App to enable the needle sweep, or wait for a kind chap with VCDS?

Let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Well - I turned on the Needle Staging with Carista - no problem. And it will turn it off again if you want !

Enjoy !

Well big thumbs up for Carista. It's managed to do what my dealer couldn't...

Alarm chirp and needle sweep activated

Happy Bunny now :)

Done a few little upgrades.

First of all sorted out the interior lighting.

Changed all bulbs to LED's which has made a big difference.

Unfortunately i managed to break both the rear ceiling lights removing them.

They were the most awkward lights I have ever come across!

I followed all the guides on how to remove them, but the little clips on the end just would not free, and ended up snapping

These ones

IMG_7697_zpstpstz1ae.jpg

Unfortunately you cannot buy just the clips, and after unsuccessfully trying to fabricate some I gave up on them.

Looking on ebay, I found some replacements for around £10 a side, but then came across these upgraded ones with the built in LED's

So I got them instead

IMG_4905_zpsq7eqwsx8.jpg

Now the LED bulbs I had installed in the original lamps were pretty bright

IMG_2351_zpsqa5v0pqf.jpg

But these with the built in LED's are SO much brighter!

Not sure if the pics show it, but might give you an idea

IMG_0946_zpsykrtgfkv.jpg

Very impressed with them.

Next job was to sort out the Aux cable.

I hate seeing cables trailing everywhere, so I lifted up the rubber mat in the cup holder, drilled a small hole and fed the cable behind the console and up through the hole. Then I made a small hole in the rubber mat, stretched it with some pliers and fed the cable through. That way when the rubber constricted it stops the cable moving on its own and is virtually invisible.

IMG_9764_zpsqflxsg53.jpg

And with mat in situ

IMG_1275_zpstqd1gzhx.jpg

Then i bought a Belkin Cup holder Phone mount (as they will take my iPhone 7+ OK) and fed the wire through the little hole in it

IMG_9138_zpsunaxfcyt.jpg

And when the phone is sat in it, the only wire you see is a bit out the Aux port and a bit going in to the phone.

My OCD side is comfortable with that.

IMG_9499_zps7gaxbjpi.jpg

Very impressed with the Belkin mount, a great alternative to a fixed one like the Brodit

Aside from that, I have fitted my dash cam and hardwired it following the Flash's excellent guide on here, and done a bit of tweaking with Carista.

Loving the car so far, although the collision detection did spook me the other day (first car I have had with it on)

I was coming down the slip road to the lights and must have been approaching a bit fast as the dash warning graphic popped up and bonged. I had plenty of time to brake, but nice to know if I was distracted it would remind me.

Done 130 miles in it so far, so still running in, but mightily impressed with it and definitely picked the right colour as it gets many a compliment from friends and colleagues.

Plus the £500 pre-paid card has just come in the post so happy days :)

Cheers

Damo, lovely car, lovely colour. Good choice. Is yours the 110ps engine?

I wonder what price the dealer was quoting you for a full size steel spare wheel plus tools and jack pack. I ordered the full spare wheel kit for my SE Hatch 110ps DSG at the time of placing my order, and it cost me just £85 and no hassle. Were you not able to do that?

  • Author

@Estate Man It's the 90ps version.

I think it's because mine was a stock car not an order like yours why I couldn't get the spare wheel for that price. Can't remember exactly what I was quoted now but I think it was around the £160 mark.

Hows the DSG with this engine?

Had it in my CR170 Superb and it was fantastic

Ah...that explains it. Regarding the DSG, yes it's a superb match to the TSI 110 engine. Very quick and smooth, very economical when you want it to be. I drove the 90ps version with the manual box before I hit on the DSG and found that to be a very nice combination for power and economy. But I went for the 110ps engine purely because it was attached to the DSG box. An auto is best for me these days due to a dodgy knee.

That`s a lovely looking car you have there! the green really suits it, regarding the black roof is that wrapped or painted? Think it would suit my father in laws blue car along with the black alloys that are superb, one day we might inherit the Fabia so thinking ahead lol.

We have a 15 Yeti at the moment but dare i say replacing it with a new Focus estate next month, the Yeti is nice but I personally found it very uncomfortable as a passenger (not bad as the driver) but the handling nearly shook my fillings out on the crap roads we have here.

The blue Fabia is a 16 1.2tsi 110ps auto SE Hatch and as my Yeti has the same engine it seems to motor on pretty well......no wonder you guys like them and nothing like the old Skodas of the 90`s lol.

Cheers

Its painted. My last car I had the roof wrapped, and it was great. Costs around the £100 mark. It would suit the blue for sure.

Thanks for the compliment, the colour looks really nice with the contrasting black

Big thanks to @WayTooTall for enabling Hill Hold for me.

He tried his best to enable coming home/leaving home lights for cars without fog lights but it wasn't having it unfortunately.

Top man, cheers

Happy to help. And I think I am getting somewhere with the coming home/leaving home lights. Will keep you posted.

Took advantage of the beautiful weather today, and gave her a nice bath, followed by a coat of wax

And with Briskoda Sticker applied for extra Kudos :D

I just love these Mk3's. They do look good don't they. Yes, I know it's a subjective thing too, but just look a Damo's in those colours. Lovely!

I really like the angular shape of Skoda's,I think Skoda call it 'crystalline' if you want to be arty.

What happened to the 'LEX' badge by the way?

Ha, it's just how the rear badge looked on the second photo, looked like it said Lex instead of Fabia.
