VCDS Buying option

Featured Replies

Can someone help clear this up.I am poised ready to part with £225.00 but asked a quick question before purchase and was told this option only works on 3 registered vehicles. The next jump up is £299 for a 10 vehicle lead. Does every time i connect does this register the vin number of the connected vehicle. I wanted to help out a couple of mates with some adaptions but if they then count as registered vins i wont be doing that. Also i see various members offer coding etc so have they paid for dealer edition or am i missing something .

This "way" of selling VCDS is quite new, I have the older HEX-CAN or something like that and its use is unlimited.  I would think that each different car you connect to will count towards your allowance. A bit tricky really it will be meant to cheaper for owners/users and more expensive for small garages etc. Progress?

Edit:- without knowing, I would hazard a guess that if you reached your limit, you could pay for any extension for a further 10 etc VINs etc.

yes you are right. Every time you connect to a new vehicle it prompts if you want to register and counts towards your 3 vins. It will only do basic scanning for free. Ive just read it on another site . Cheers anyway. You can buy extra credits which is nearly the same price again

Gulp, so now your "mates" will know what they need to pay you, so take care just in case your learning how to use VCDS does not come up to their expectations!

It isn't any wonder people buy the hacked leads on Ebay to be honest. I had a mate who had one fora few years and didn't have any issues providing he didn't update the software. Cant say i want to chance it on my car but if you have an older car ....

The VIN limitation only effects the newer HEX-V2 and HEX-NET interfaces. The older HEX-USB+CAN leads didn't have this limitation which is how other members (including myself) are able to offer coding. Some of the latest cars aren't fully supported (2016+ Audi Q7, A4) due to hardware limitations and the increasing complexity of cars. Still, it should be find for your 2016 vRS if you can find a genuine one in stock.

I think they brought it in to make a more affordable version for personal use as most people don't have more than 3/10 cars. If you are planning on helping your mates out, the unlimited is probably the best way to go. Depending how many mates are interested, you might be able to split the cost difference between them.

Otherwise, depending where you are in Norfolk I'm happy to do some coding :)

Here's a link to the Ross-Tech forum specifying what functions are included in the VIN limit http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?8869

What functions are not VIN-Restricted?
A VIN-Limited interface can do Auto-Scans, Clear DTCs, and look at Measuring Values on an unlimited number of cars. I think this is important because I wouldn't want to keep an enthusiast from trying to doing basic diagnostics on his friends' cars, or to use his VCDS when evaluating used cars he's contemplating buying. You wouldn't buy a used car without doing an Auto-Scan on it first, right? In addition, you can make channel maps on an unlimited number of cars because sending us those maps helps us improve the product.

I'm in sunny sheringham.  I have been thinking about the purchase over the last few years having owned 4 vrs.  I'm only interested in mirror dip on reverse and traffic sign recognition on colour maxi dot.  Oh and auto dipping.  And basically any other cool options.  I have led rear number plate lamps.  The car has colour maxi dot but amundsen head unit.  I can travel if your not too far.

Did you buy it from Simpsons?

if so you could have come to me for coding when you picked it up

No not this time . The have burnt their bridges with me im afraid . I had the first ever skoda a Mk 1 VRS in 2005 they sold when they got the skoda dealership but they have got a bit too big for their boots. Walkers in Kings Lynn this time. I have always got on well with Darren but that Howard is  a knob. Ive had the car since september but have been putting off doing anything. Im happy to travel. I think you had your blue Mk2 at the same time as me. Your in Gorleston if i remember.

I'm over in Swaffham so there is probably only 10 mins difference in travel time between visiting myself or Ed.

Drop me a PM if you want to arrange something :)

Thats kind of you. Im kinda weighing up if i would get enough use from it if i paid the £225. I would love to find someone who is selling one of the older unlimited use equipment as that would make it more attractive. I do some weird shift patterns with 6 on 4 off . I would probably have to give you some dates to work in with you but cheers mate.

That is a real shame that they didn't look after you, if i remember correctly you bought a few cars from them.

Loyalty works both ways, but they need to give you the right deal or you go elsewhere.

When I decide to get another car they will have to give the right deal or i will look elsewhere

Yeah me and the missus liked going there and Darren was very helpful. We had decided on a white estate there in September and i was due to go over the day before TO BUY  when i got a phone call telling me it was sold and dont bother coming. I would have at least liked a phone call prior to, giving me the heads up someone was interested. I had visited a few days before but i was told it wouldn't be available when i wanted it because it was Darrens car and he had booked in to a carpark for airport parking prior to a weekend break so  I couldn't have it.

They had no  other vrs in so i told them Robinsons had 3 which they did and 3 at  Walkers kings lynn. Clearly howard could tell i was not happy and tried to offer me help as i was a good customer etc ass licking exercise . Not that good clearly. I went to walkers and bought a 2016 with lower mileage cheaper and winter pack and extreme wheels etc.

Hence i will never step foot in the showroom again and as its nearer i will use robinsons for servicing.  It is a shame but a friend of mine has had the same and wont be using them as they tried to rip him off on his motor caravan service. He too has a newish little fabia  as well as buying his motor homes from them and  he also will be considering other alternatives. Rant over.
