Started about 6 months ago, I had trouble coming down from 5th to 4th would not go in, push into 3rd to align selector and will then go in 4th, then a few months ago started doing the same from 6th to 4th also.

 

A few days ago when leaving work I started the engine tried to put it in reverse would not go in, tried all gears an nothing locked out of all gears ended up forcing into 4th then all gears ok, this happened again yesterday.

 

I read on here gearbox's are fairly heavy duty?

 

Had conversion to solid flywheel 18 months ago and regretted it due to making it sound like a transit van.

 

 

New gearbox? or can it be repaired?

Should I change the clutch back to duel???

 

 

 

 

I'd start simple and change the oil, genuine stuff from the dealer. Although it could be gear selector issues?  

 

Try both at a garage and see how you go.

Oil never fixes this, I mean never, I know it's cheap and easy but it doesn't work unless the level is low due to a leak in which case just top it up.

 

Gearboxes are NOT heavy duty, they're fragile, 5-speeders are much more reliable.

Could try resetting the linkages. It's more likely sycros have gone.

 

Any reason why you fitted a single mass flywheel? These are multi shaft gearboxes and we're never designed to have a SMF. Yes lots of people do run them without many issues but they do cause damage over time.

I had the conversion done when the duel fell to pieces (less than 3 months of owning in fact in the first 3 months the clutch and the head went) after advice from the local garage telling me it would be a cheaper option, he said I would not know the difference (maybe he thought I was deaf)

 

I have been concerned with the noise and thought he'd fitted it wrong or something, it's embarrassing as it sounds like a worn out taxi, push the clutch in and it all goes away, the plan was to get a remap but think I should invest in conversion back to duel first.

 

I will reset the box and check oil level (although no leaks) at the weekend to see if that helps but suspect the conversion has hammered the gearbox to death.

 

What to do?

Well I hate the noise so need to convert back to duel but not sure about the box?  

 

What would you do?

Advice on clutch please standard or upgrade?, when I get to a stage where I have no issues (ha) planning on an economy remap.
