Over revving on idle with video

Featured Replies

I wrote some time ago, about my VRS 230 occassionaly over revving whilst stationary. When it happens, it just happens, no particular set of circumstances. Fortunately (unfortunately ?!), it happened today, and I had my phone handy to record it. It's easy to see what's happening, but you may need to turn up your volume to hear it. Anyone else had this?

Was the engine shaking while revving?

Is the car tuned?

No shaking or tuning...It was just as though I was revving it myself.

Really strange - my 230 has never done this.

Were you perhaps running a lot of electrical bits (heated seats, windscreen etc) that would put an additional load on the engine?

Even with every piece of electrical equipment on the engine shouldn't be doing that. Book it into your dealer. It isn't normal.

No, no 2 times are ever the same. Sco3ott, yes, it will be going to the dealers, but I wanted to wait until I caught it on video :-)

Don't know why it said "my I sent you" when I just wrote "to"!

A couple of months later, I arrived home, and there was a smell of burning oil. I opened the bonnet, and there was oil all over the place :-(  Skoda roadside came out, and turned out the oil filler cap had been loose, and blown off..A known problem by Skoda ! Filler cap put on properly, and never had the problem since !

Thank you, that was exactly it! The oil cap was just balanced on top with oil sprayed all around it. Luckily the oil wasn't low so I hope it won't have any lasting effects. It's in for a service at the end of the month so I guess I'll see if anything gets picked up then.
