New Scout or a VRS

Featured Replies

I currently have a leased diesel Scout 150 which goes back in May. Currently on the look out for a replacement, the family like the ride comfort provided by the current car. The size, space and overall experience has been very positive, I would prefer a bit more performance. Not keen on the DSG box, so the option might be a VRS. Does anyone have experience of both a Scout and a VRS with regard to ride comfort ?

Ground clearance of vrs is approx 12cm, where Scout is approx 17cm. You have to decide if you have used it w/ current one.

BTW there should be an option of 180hp petrol and diesel,no?

Ride of vrs is much stiffer, seats are good but not sure for everyday driving long term

Tough choice! Take the VRS for a test drive with family and see what they think?

I've had two VRSs and now have a 184bhp DSG Scout. The ride is much more forgiving in the Scout and the slightly higher seating position also makes it easier to get in out out, especially for older people.

Depends on whether you want 4x4, too, as the current 4x4 vRS was not available with a manual 'box, so unlikely to be available in the facelifted version either. Unsure re the Scout but I suspect it's the same.

Have just moved from a VRS to a 184 Scout.

Scout is a strange spec and mis the headlights especially

Ride is very comfortable and the 4 wheel drive is brilliant. No wheel spin, no pushing nose wide and really good fun. I would have one again no hesitation.

But the new FL has a 4x4 VRS, which would be my first choice

I've had both, albeit Mk2 FL. Both had Columbus, Xenons & lots of other toys.

The perfect car would be a petrol Scout with vRS grunt.

I much preferred the ride comfort of the Scout. The vRS is a tad stiff suspension-wise.

Best of luck choosing!

Thank you for the replies. Feels like a Scout 150 again, might try a test drive in a 184 with DSG. I have it with my Golf and it does not quite work for me. Agree the headlights on the Scout are not the best. Hopefully a decent lease deal on the new model will come along.

I should have said - one of my prime considerations in choosing the 184DSG Scout was to look for one with the BiXenon headlights. They are a huge improvement on the standard halogens and I wouldn't have bought one without them.

Vrs looks much better. Buy a scout when you lift your pension

if neither fits 100% you could remap a scout, or fit more comfortable suspension to a vrs :)

wanted to ask the same question

There is something about the Scout that draws me to it

i assume the VRS has more toys as standard?

If you wait for the facelift you might be pleased to hear that the Scout gains the latest LED headlights as standard.

I too have a Scout (150bhp, manual) and find the headlights a huge let down after experiencing xenon's on a previous Scout.

I've also had a vRS and found the ride too hard for anything other than the motorway. The roads around here just don't lend themselves to sports suspension, overly large alloys and low profile tyres.
