Comes in handy but I really do need to get some roof bars and carriers

 

 

I had one nearly identical 10 or so years ago and it had been remapped by DMS, back then it surprised quite a lot how it went down the road and handled but the bearings in the turbo were noisy after less than 35k.

 

Had a brand new turbo fitted under warranty by the main dealer and less than 40 miles later the new turbo blew and then they had to replace the turbo, cat and intercooler. Lost all faith in it and sold it shortly after, but still remember the positives!

This is in at the end of the month for a gearbox service. oil, filter & seals then I've got the brakes to do so after that I'll look into whether it's already had a map in the past. It doesn't hang about for a big old bus but having never driven one im not sure it's been done or not. 

I've done 10k in it since Jan and every miles been a pleasure

 

Make sure they do the double flush on the gearbox otherwise you'll only end up having 50% of the fluid changed. Unless they have one of those machines that pumps it out that is.

 

I've got my Range Rover to do at some point and already decided I'm going to do it myself and double flush it.

It's a zf box specialist in Notts that's doing it so it'll be pumped out no doubt. 

 

With the golf sold I'm back in the bm, booked in next weekend for its gearbox service then I can crack on with the bigger brakes and a few other bits I want to do to it.

New key (supposedly) when I picked the car up in Jan has all of a sudden stopped working. 

Decided to inspect the internals......

 

I'm assuming the little bit stuck to the paper and should be soldered to the ports circled are what'

 Causing the issue!

I should really clean it

 

Not a lot happening with this, still not cleaned it just been using and abusing to carry my bike about. 

No freedom anymore so can't add pics but I've fitted roof bars and a couple of bike carriers and have to use a stool but it's all good

I'm seriously considering one of these next. I'm looking at the petrol engines because the annual millage is low. How are you getting on with yours?

Just use and abuse it these days, carries the bike and pulls the horsebox with ease. Just ready for an oil change and thermostat but other than that it's all good

4.6 or 4.8 petrol are the only ones worth considering over the diesel imo. I wouldve had a v8 if i didnt do so many miles

Not worth considering the 4.4 V8?

 

TBH I've been looking for a well specced 3.0i six but swmbo is wanting a V8.

Not really for what it is tbh. 3.0i is pointless and doesn't return much better mpg than the  bigger v8s 

Spoke to soon, think I've jinxed it as a rear brake pipe has burst tonight

Still munching the miles, Mrs has took over it as her daily and I just use it when I've got to tow the horses. 

 

Fixed the burst rear brake pipe with a full set of wezmoto braided jobbies, needed rear metal pipes, front track rod end and handbrake adjustment for the mot recently. Also did the thermostat and the mpg has gone up (happy days).

I didn't think that was to bad for a year and a half a motoring and 17k miles covered.

You hear/see so many horror stories on the forums and online but I've got to say it's been pretty good. No major issues and it just takes everything thrown at it in its stride. Tows effortless and just munches miles

main one ive heard about is the driveshafts and some dodgy bushes,neither of those are a real concern for me.

The e36 is getting a bit much to daily after 12hr shifts fancy giving the luxury life a go

 

im still a bit unsure if i want another auto though soarer auto just bores me to death even with a 1jz in it ,hows the manual mode on it?

Auto is the way forward pal, I said I'd never have one but I wouldn't go back manual in a daily now. You can select manual and even fit the paddles from an smg m3. 

I've never come across the driveshaft issue but the rear subframe bushes do wear causing excessive camber but that easily fixed with some poly ones.
