Roomster Roof Rails

Hello All,

I'm looking to buy a Roomster, but due to my circumstances it has to have roof rails. I've found that this limits my choice a lot as most don't have them. I've looked on this forum and Google generally for information on retro-fits, but have come to a dead end. From what I've read it is possible to drill four holes in the roof with a template and fit them and not have to take the roof lining out to do so, in fact I think someone on here had done it.  However, I've spoken to Skoda Kings Heath and Skoda Redditch (I'm from Birmingham) about doing the work and both say the headlining needs to be removed and the whole job costs around £650 due to the labour costs of doing just that.  I also contacted a couple of independent VAG specialists who both said they wouldn't touch a job like that. Are Skoda telling me fibs?  Does the headlining need to be removed?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers, Michael.

Yes, they are telling you fibs! Ask them to show you the book price for the job (request a print out) which shows that the total including supply & fit is £212. Also absolute piffle about having to remove the headlining, the template allows the holes to be drilled through the roof in the correct place to line up with the threaded holes underneath. Was going to have it done myself but I actually prefer the look without & luckily they're not a necessity for me.

Good luck, Grampa.

Hi Mgjmgj and welcome to Briskoda.

Here is the thread you were looking for:

I forgot to add - All Electric do not carry out this type of work in their own workshop.

Instead, they send this work to an excellent bodywork specialist:

Sprint Auto Repairs

Limekiln Lane

Yardley Wood

B14 4SP

You might want to approach Sprint Autos direct.

They should still have the templates from when they did mine.

Thanks for the replies Grampa and Chris. Aren't they swines!  It's such a lot of money to be trying get out of someone. I don't know what it is about service departments of car dealerships, but I've had loads more poor experiences from them than good, in fact only one good one I can remember from a Volvo dealership.

I'll go back to them and ask about a print off of the book price. I did email Skoda UK, but got a reply saying they don't discuss technical questions and to contact my local dealership. I then phoned Redditch and spoke to a guy who quoted that price. I questioned him on the receiving bolts already welded on under the roof skin and he told me that not every Roomster had the bolts as there was two production lines in the factory. One for regular Roomsters with no bolts and one for Roomsters that had been ordered with roof rails as an option. I then emailed the dealership and got two replies from two different members of staff, both saying the headlining needs to come out and one quoting me £394 and the other £369.60 (excluding the rails themselves of course).

Hi Robjon,

Thanks for that, that was the post I saw which made me think the dealership wasn't being entirely honest. Your right. I physically went round to All Electric in Kings Heath and they said they'd have to send it to a body shop to get the holes drilled. He told me that alone would be £450. I must have mug written on my forehead. Fab advice regarding Sprint Autos. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what they say. I really don't feel like giving Skoda any work the way they treated me.

Cheers.

Hi,

I phoned my local Skoda dealer about a year ago and got quoted £212 by the Parts Dept.

I also had cruise control fitted at the same time as the fitted price seemed really fair (about £320 I think ??) again as quoted by the Parts Dept.

They gave me a written quote for just parts and a fitted price on a number of things but these 2 were what I went for in the end (I fitted the bumper protector and wind deflectors myself as they were pretty simple).

When the job was done I went to the Service reception to pay and they had a massively bigger price on the worksheet.

I showed them the quote from Parts Dept. and after a discussion with said Parts Dept. they amended the bill to fit the quote.

Seems the Parts Dept. has better fitted inc. prices than the Service Dept. computer produces for the overall job as set out and charged step by step.

Get a quote from Parts and then book it through them.

I got the Service Dept. to give me all packaging and unused/replaced parts so I got the fitting instructions.

From memory the templates are multi part and locate where to drill and then what shape and size to enlarge the holes to.

Rails and templates are available here (if you are very brave) but cost will be more than fitting one set if you can still get the £212ish price.

Hi, Can anyone tell me if this is possible on Roomsters with the glass panoramic roof fitted? I see some cars for sale with glass roof and roof rails, but i'd like to be sure. Might it be an option to buy some roofrails 2nd hand off a breakers? guessing i'd still need the fitting kit and templates?

Is it an easy job with the fitting kit and templates? all done from outside the car?

Thanks.
