No rear view camera in L&K now

Featured Replies

Does anyone know why and when they removed the rear view camera from the L&K model?  Is there now something else that the base model has instead? Quite an expensive extra now at £350 when placing order for new car. Also there use to be a tv tuner in there and this is now £750 :-O

The rear view camera has always been an optional extra (£300 in 2015) in the UK for any Superb III, including the L&K.

Edit: With exception of the S which didn't have the option.

As Alex said it’s always been an option, one I specced and I am glad I did.

The TV tuner was std on mine, and although it is very good I wouldn’t pay extra for it as it has been used twice... purely to try it out.

You could probably get one retrofitted for a little over £300.  I'm picking up a Sportline Estate on Tuesday that doesn't have a reversing camera, so I've just sent OEM Retrofits in Bradford a message via Facebook.  I haven't had a reply back yet.  When I do, I'll let you know how much they're quoting.

My MY17 L&K has no TV tuner and I spec'd the reversing camera. The rear wiper is compulsory due to the camera lens cleaner water jet works in conjunction with rear wash/wipe.

Reversing camera is very useful on the Kombi and I use the TV almost every day - albeit for about 5 mins whilst little man is being dropped off & collected from Nursery - but I am not sure that I would spend the extra now.  More so given the changes in VED from 1st April 17 impacting cars which list above £40k.

Wish I could afford the camera. Spent enough already :-)

isn't the 40k just for the list price or do they use all the extras to tot it up too?

No it’s for the full RRP including any options, it also does not take into account any discount you can get.

That is strange. The reverse camera is standard on the Irish sportline. The Irish spec is usually behind the uk spec!

Not on Superbs for some reason - I have 4 heated seats in my Irish Elegance Superb II and three auto dipping mirrors, while you had to pay for these in the UK elegance models. I think part of the reason is that many Irish buyers have the attitude that they'll never make the money they pay extra for features they want back when selling it on, so they buy the car that comes with it standard or live without the feature altogether. This is why there's such a good trade in importing second hand cars with decent specs from the UK to Ireland. Ireland has a shocking number of people who'll pay €40 000+ for a car to save €100 on motor tax as paying less to the government every year makes them feel like they're getting one over on them, even though they are now taking a depreciation hit much bigger than the tax saving (Which thanks to 23% VAT and anything from 14-36% VRT on top of the price of the car with VAT already added isn't a tax saving either) and for all this money they still aren't getting the car they really want because they add nothing to the spec.

What's really getting hilarious in Ireland is that insurance costs have got so high that it's now cheaper for a surprising number of people to permanently rent a car (About €2500 a year + fuel will get an insured rental, with no maintenance/repair costs at all, while quite a few people are being quoted more than that for just insurance already).

Added the camera to my vehicle that is on order today. I think I would have regretted it if I hadn't.

I bet the TV tuner is still there and simply (?) needs to be ‘unhidden’ just like this feature:

Well said, couldn't agree more .  It really is amazing how road tax is such a selling point for people. Dealers are still pushing this as a USP on and so may are falling for it and basing their buying decision on it...madness

I've booked to have the camera retrofitted at the end of this month, by a company in Nuneaton.  Cost is about £500 inc VAT.

When I ordered my car I originally didn't spec the camera, and was going over and over it in my mind, I was put off by the cost and by the fact it wasn't a standard item on the L & K.

I then priced up the individual components and factored in having to run cables through the car and then get it calibrated to work correctly and decided that the option cost was actually quite reasonable so added it to the order before production.

I'm so glad I did now, I find it very useful especially on the combi, as the parking sensors will go to a constant tone well before the back end is near anything so fitting the car into parking spaces you can get the back end right up to the line and hence avoid the front end sticking out.

Also the different parking aids on the camera screen are very impressive, I managed to use it to squeeze into a very tight parallel parking spot and it was bang on.

Less than €100 for parts to fit the Taureg camera to the Superb II. After that it's a couple of hours work to fit based on instructions I've seen. That job is planned for my car this summer... The advanced version with lines on the screen that move as you turn the front wheels costs a good bit more though.

When I ran through the options for my new L & K I didn't bother with the reversing camera. The demo I tried had it but I wasn't fussed for the extra it costs. It has so many sensors now I was happy to go with that. When I back into parking space I kick one of the lads out of the car and they look for me.

Didn't go for the tuner, would never use it.

One thing I did spec though, 4x4 and 280ps. ;)
