If you only want the amp to work when ignition is on, you could buy a piggyback fuse ( it's a fuse holder with a parallel fuse which plugs into a fuse position. ONE fuse position supplies the origonal circuit whilst the second one supplies the aux circuit via a seperate fuse). Plug it into an always on circuit ( with a small fuse in the secondary position, or into a position controlled via ignition on ) .Scotchlock ( insulation displacement connectors) are frowned on these days as there's a possibility of corrosion at the joining point. Always a possibility in a MK1 Fabia due to damp inside car.

Thanks for your help guys.  Radio in and working now another stupid problem.

 

The trim surround I am ordering which comes up as the correct part does not fit.  Sent two back thinking might have been a supply mistake - apparently not, same. seems a tight fit and the latching 'pegs' do not line up and and fit in the four holes where the two original side trims were removed.   I have a 2006 Fabia vrs.

Suggest that the trim has to go on before the radio cage and radio is installed. Pulling off the side trims and heater controls cover helps. The radio bezel cover clips on last.

Suggest that this one is always shown upside down. That trim bit should cover above the radio surely.

Thanks for your reply.  It is narrow bit to the bottom. Videos I have watched (not Fabia)  trim fits on afterwards.  The fixing lugs on new trim do not match/line up with the original trim  holes.

adding ypo my post above...................  i have offered up with the lugs towards me, it fits in properly.  Weird the lugs are not positioned correctle and one is too large for the hole.

I did my single-DIN stereo installation differently from you, but aimed for what I presume is a similar outcome.

 

This is my completed works...

 

 

I kept the OEM cubby at the bottom (drilled a hole in mine to run an iPod cable through) and used a single-DIN fascia purchased from Halfords, they still sell them IIRC.

Interesting. Similar to mine, but in my case there was no need for additional fascias, apparently.

You, however, appear to have a different "cubby" area. That will be why you didn't need an adaptor.

Thanks again guys.  Even though the part number seems correct for the 2004 - 2007 Fabia tit did not install. For some reason on my car the holes for some of the the lugs are in different position and the wrong size.  So, giving up the quest  and fed up no option left but the final solution.  After chopping off, filing and sawing now modified to the basic surround and fitted.   Just needs securing properly so problem solved ................ apart from one final mystery.  Where am I supposed to stick the piece of adhesive backed foam that comes with the caddy.  Polite answers only please 😄

 

Love my little Fabia, still all standard, no mods - apart from this radio.

Doable? Yes. Have I tried? Absolutely. But then I needed the filler trim piece so that's why I left it like that.

I wouldn't be so sure. It looks original, fits nicely in the center console, has the exact same colour as the rest of the trim and has the corresponding tabs, pegs and everything

Curiosity got the best of me, so I had to go and check out the cubby to see whether it was an original part or not. Turns out it is original and quite more practical than having to 3D print custom stuff.

 

There's the part number if you're interested.

 

Also it has its own little rubber mat so coins/objects don't make so much noise, and makes it easier to clean.

Thank you. I had never seen such a cubby type thing before so it's nice to discover something new.
