FL 2009 Octavia - wing mirror repeater LED replacement

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Sincere apologies if there's already a thread on this but I'm unable to get to a proper computer at the mo and am stuck with a phone where the search feature is not playing ball.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had any success in replacing/fixing dud LEDs in a FL Octy 2 wing mirror indicator repeater?

Being the FL this is the thin strip across the width of the mirror housing as opposed to the pre-FL item which lives at the outside bottom edge of the mirror.

i managed to replace the unit on my previous, pre-FL Octy but before I set about my current car I just wanted to see whether it was an easy thing for a civilian to attempt or whether I'd need a grown-up..

Any pointers very gratefully received - thank you in advance.

Dave.

I think the process is similar for both pre-FL and FL. Recently had to replace led strip in offside mirror of the Scout but garage just did it for me.

There's quite a few threads in here. Here is one with some descriptions but photos seem to have dropped off from hosting.

"Replacing Octavia A5 door mirror indicator repeater:

I just had my passenger door repeater replaced under warranty because of water ingress (lens turned rusty-colour.)

Previously had to replace the driver's door one because it got clobbered by a passing car in a country lane: mirror and housing were fine, but indicator lens broke.

To replace the indicator (sealed) unit: press lower front to release the mirror housing then unclip it all round the mirror - it lifts off in one piece. Two small torx screws secure the indicator: the outer one is easy to see but the one towards the door is pretty inaccessible - move the mirror electrically to point down and use a torch to see the screw which is about level with the door side of the motor's rubber boot. No need to completely remove that screw because the indicator will lower away from it. Pull the puddle light bulb holder out. New indicator goes on easily. Refitting the mirror housing needs patience: you have to engage the thin bit at the base with the indicator unit and that is straightforward but tricky. Once you have done that the lower front of the housing is easier to click into place."

I tried to diy mine. I damaged the mirror even more and had not even got the correct parts. My local garage did the job correctly with the the correct parts.Cost about £40 iirc.

Thanks for all the replies & sage advice - I have managed to source a replacement unit and am loathe to cause any further mishap so on balance I think I may wait until the car goes into the garage next. It's due to have the rear wash/wipe looked at (quel surprise) so I'll get it all done then I think..

Cheers all,

Dave.

I have a complete mirror for sale cheaper than the led unit.

Just simply swap the coloured covers over or swap out the leds
