Steering Query

Featured Replies

hi guys

Hoping you can help me work through a potential problem with the steering on my 2008 Scout TDi.

Last 2 MOT's have had an advisory on slight play in the near side steering arm joint(s)

Advisory notice item(s)

nearside Play in steering rack inner joint(s)

First time it was noted, I took the car to Skoda who fitted a new NSF steering arm and track rod end, gaiter etc.

I assumed that was the end of it (and stupidly didn't verify that the play had gone) - can't notice it while driving.

Next MOT (same garage), the same advisory about the steering arm(s) was there again.

This time I asked the garage to show me the play, and sure enough with the car up in the air, the technician could grab the NSF wheel and pull it outwards which looked as though it was play in the steering arm.

Took the car back to Skoda who replaced the arm under the 2 years parts and labour warranty.

I got them to check and prove that the play had gone - this time, their response was that their is 'very' slight play in the steering rack.

Looks like I need to replace the rack. As far as I can tell the rack part number is :-

Address 44: Steering Assist Labels: 1Kx-909-14x-44.clb
   Part No: 1K2 909 144 M
   Component: EPS_ZFLS Kl.070 H08 1901
   Shop #: WSC 73430 000 90108
   VCID: 36630779418EBD8E94-8062

No fault code found.

With this information in mind what would be my next course of action?

Cheers

PS is part number 1K0 909 144 P compatible? (2012 Scout TDi rack)

Anyone have any suggestions as to next steps to take?

Naturally want to avoid changing the rack if possible.
