Columbus nav. system.

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if there is a connection where a 3.5mm jack can be used to play an ipod  through the radio system?

Do I need an adapter or lead ?

The unit is an aftermarket installation.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The connection you're talking about would be an AUX jack (auxiliary) which is sometimes factory fitted. But it's very basic and requires the ipod to be used for all functions such as track change, track skipping etc. and doesn't charge the ipod either.

Another option would be an MDI kit (Multi Device Interface) which gives more control and I think also allows charging.

But much easier is transfer the music to an sd card and use it directly in the Columbus, gives full integration with all car controls.

Thanks for prompt reply.

I have quite a lot of music and audio books on a ipod classic and apple are not too keen about copying of there music. I am at the moment using a fm transmitter playing through the radio which is rubbish reception. I would have thought there was a aux. connection somewhere if I could find it.

MDI kit in the sales section.

But I'd still put a few minutes effort into googling "rip apple music to mp3" and get a couple of SD cards.

Even better is to get a Bluetooth module for the Columbus. Not only will you be able to talk hands-free safely, but you will also get A2DP music streaming with no cables. And if you have a multifunctional steering wheel, you will also be able to control the device without moving your hands away.

i have mdi,bt with my columbus and i find the best method is to stream via bt.

i use the mdi mostly to charge my phone

Err... yep... my bad then!

Or, maybe it's time the OP ditched the iPod and transferred his music to an Android phone :)

Columbus sat nav.

I'm afraid ipod classic does not have Bluetooth, it has over 100gb of music and audio books so it wouldn't really be practical to rip to MP3.

Then the MDI kit linked above would perhaps be the best bet. As long as it comes with the ipod adapter lead you need for your device.

It doesn't I also have an ipod classic that has worked OK, using the interface and has full integration all be it a bit slow, maybe an ipod Touch or even a 4s with no sim would work quicker, plus it has blue tooth.
